NGM - Capital Projects Safety Manager

Position Description:

Our people division is growing, and we are looking for a Safety Manager to join our Capital Projects team. The successful candidate will provide strategic and operational leadership for health and safety across the NGM projects portfolio. The role is accountable for developing, implementing, and maintaining project safety management systems, driving a proactive safety culture across owner and contractor teams, and ensuring compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements, including MSHA. The role leads a team of safety professionals supporting multiple concurrent project sites.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide visible safety leadership and drive a culture of zero harm across all project sites and workgroups.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain the project safety management system, plans, and procedures in alignment with corporate standards and MSHA requirements.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage the projects safety team, including safety superintendents and site safety personnel.
  • Establish contractor safety management requirements, including prequalification, mobilization reviews, and ongoing performance monitoring.
  • Oversee risk management processes, including hazard identification, risk assessments, critical control management, and job hazard analyses.
  • Direct incident management: reporting, investigation (e.g., ICAM or equivalent methodology), root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Develop and monitor leading and lagging safety KPIs; report safety performance to project and executive leadership.
  • Ensure effective emergency preparedness and response plans are in place and tested at all project sites.
  • Manage safety training and competency programs, including site inductions, task-specific training, and regulatory training requirements.
  • Conduct audits, inspections, and management reviews to verify compliance and drive continuous improvement.
  • Interface with regulators, corporate HSE, operations, and other stakeholders on safety matters.
  • Based in Elko, Nevada, with substantial time at project sites. Work involves regular exposure to active construction and mining environments, extended hours during critical project phases, and availability for incident response.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience; CSP, CMSP, or similar professional certification preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of health and safety experience in mining, heavy construction, or industrial projects, including 5+ years in a safety leadership role preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of MSHA regulations and their application to surface and underground mining and construction activities preferred
  • Demonstrated experience managing contractor safety on major capital projects required
  • Formal incident investigation training and experience leading significant investigations preferred
