Summary

Principal product owner for the Nexus cross-border payments service at Payment Network Malaysia: sets product strategy, roadmap and priorities, turning scheme, regulatory and participant needs into real-time payment capabilities (ISO 20022, FX, settlement) while advising the CEO, board, regulators and central banks.

Why Nexus Global Operator / Why Now

  • Shape the product direction of the Nexus service as it develops into a scalable, multi-market cross-border payments proposition
  • Define how Nexus creates value for IPSOs, financial institutions, payment participants and end customers across different markets
  • Influence product decisions spanning real-time payments, interoperability, ISO 20022, FX and participant economics
  • Work directly with the CEO, NGP, regulators, central banks and ecosystem stakeholders on decisions that shape the future of Nexus
  • Build the product foundations and operating discipline that can support a larger product function as the organization grows

TL;DR

  • Act as the organization’s principal product owner, setting the product strategy, roadmap and priorities for the Nexus service
  • Turn scheme, market, participant and regulatory needs into coherent product outcomes and testable requirements
  • Decide how competing demands are prioritized without fragmenting the overall Nexus proposition
  • Lead the complete product lifecycle from discovery and business case through delivery, launch, adoption and continuous improvement
  • Balance customer outcomes, ecosystem adoption, operational resilience, technical complexity and commercial sustainability
  • Provide clear product recommendations to the CEO, Board, shareholders and relevant governance forums

Why This Role Matters

  • Give Nexus a clear product direction that connects strategic ambition with deliverable priorities
  • Ensure product decisions respond to common ecosystem needs rather than creating unsustainable market-by-market variations
  • Translate complex payment rules, regulatory expectations and participant requirements into scalable capabilities
  • Protect the coherence and resilience of the Nexus proposition as new markets, participants and use cases are introduced
  • Connect product strategy with technology delivery, onboarding, operations, security and commercial considerations
  • Use adoption, operational and performance insights to determine where the product should evolve next

What You Will Actually Do

  • Own the product strategy, multi-year roadmap, demand-intake process and prioritization framework for the Nexus service
  • Lead product discovery and translate scheme, market, regulatory and participant needs into clear requirements, acceptance criteria and measurable outcomes
  • Manage the product backlog and make evidence-based trade-offs across strategic value, customer impact, operational risk, delivery complexity and investment
  • Shape real-time and cross-border payment capabilities spanning routing, validation, ISO 20022 messaging, exceptions, returns, reconciliation, settlement and FX
  • Work across NGP, IPSOs, technology, security, operations and onboarding teams to resolve product questions and validate delivered outcomes
  • Monitor product adoption and performance, using participant feedback, operating data and incident insights to drive continuous improvement

Examples of This Role in Practice

  • An IPSO requests a market-specific capability that could complicate the common proposition: assess the ecosystem value, implementation impact and commercial case before recommending whether it enters the roadmap
  • A regulatory development affects payment transparency or transaction processing: determine the product implications and turn the requirement into a clear, prioritized delivery outcome
  • Several stakeholders submit competing requests for the same release: weigh customer impact, strategic value, risk and delivery capacity, then present a transparent prioritization recommendation
  • A proposed FX-enabled capability could improve adoption but introduces new operating and participant complexities: evaluate the complete proposition before recommending an investment decision
  • A recurring production exception affects transactions across multiple markets: determine whether the underlying issue sits in product design, implementation or operations and drive the appropriate response
  • A delivered capability meets its technical requirements but is not achieving expected adoption: investigate participant barriers and decide whether the roadmap, proposition or operating model should change

What Will Help You Succeed

  • Bring significant product-management experience in payments, banking, fintech or financial-market infrastructure, including ownership of complex products from strategy through production
  • Demonstrate deep knowledge of real-time or instant payments, cross-border payment flows, ISO 20022 and the end-to-end transaction lifecycle
  • Apply strong product judgment across participant needs, customer outcomes, interoperability, operating resilience, commercial sustainability and technical feasibility
  • Navigate payment-scheme rules, regulatory expectations and multi-market stakeholder environments with confidence
  • Convert complex and sometimes conflicting inputs into clear priorities, testable requirements and defensible product decisions
  • Operate comfortably as a hands-on principal product owner while influencing the CEO, Board, regulators, central banks, shareholders and senior ecosystem stakeholders
