Summary

Overnight staff member ensuring safety and care for clients in a behavioral health facility, performing hourly rounds, documentation, and crisis intervention.

SUMMARY:

In accordance with RNP's Mission Statement, Philosophy of Client Care and Code of Ethics as stated in the Personnel Policies and under the supervision of

HOURS: Monday - Friday 12:00 am - 8:00 am

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: All duties are subject to accommodation in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

  • Remain awake and alert at all times to ensure safety and security of person served and building.
  • Utilize appropriate methods of effective night monitoring which includes rounds and walk through the building hourly and document findings.
  • Complete head counts and confirm in accordance with the current census.
  • Acknowledge and document all behavior(s) on the part of any person served that is considered inappropriate or a cause for concern.
  • Attempt to redirect any person served in a respectful and appropriate manner as needed and offer supportive counseling as deemed necessary.
  • Utilize crisis intervention techniques & contingency plans whenever necessary based on person served need and staff assessment.
  • Document significant medical, psychological, and social issues in client charts and shift rapport communication issues in Communication Log.
  • Submit timely incident reports as established by RNP Policies and Procedures.
  • Participate in personal and professional training and development activities to remain current with stands set forth by Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services for psychiatric rehabilitation facilities.
  • Collaborate with other community service providers.
  • Attend weekly team meetings.
  • Assume all other appropriate duties as deemed necessary by the supervisor.
  • Provide hourly rounds
  • Assure the safety of the program.
  • Wake clients up and help them prepare for their day
  • Oversee breakfast in the morning
  • Assist with chart audits and administrative duties, counting of encounter notes
  • Archiving of discharged charts
  • Documentation of water temperature
  • Assure program safety compliance
  • Ordering supplies

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of principles and techniques of basic counseling skills, crisis intervention and documentation.
  • Understanding of the physical, psychological, social and economic effects of substance abuse, homelessness, medical and mental health disorders.
  • Considerable knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations regarding client confidentiality.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships with clients, colleagues and supervisors.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to project a professional image
  • Must be able to walk up stairs
  • Must be able to lift 10 lbs.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of an associate’s degree in behavioral health and at least two (2) years’ experience in related field preferred with clients with co-occurring disorders; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Incumbents may be encouraged to secure professional certification (e.g. CAC and/or SCCD).
  • A valid CT driver's license required.
