Not Your Everyday Plant Controller! (49173)
We’re growing — and we’re looking for a Plant Controller who wants to be part of building what’s next.
One Fine Family is expanding, and we’re looking for an experienced Plant Controller to join our team and play a key role in the financial and operational performance of our growing manufacturing business.
This is not a traditional desk-bound accounting role.
Our Plant Controller is a hands-on finance partner who gets into the operation, understands how the product is made, challenges the numbers when they don’t make sense, and works directly with Operations and Finance leadership to improve performance.
If you’re the kind of finance professional who wants to know why the numbers look the way they do — and what can be done about them — this could be a great opportunity.
About the Role
The Plant Controller will own and influence key areas of manufacturing finance, including inventory control, standard costing, product costing, manufacturing variance analysis, plant performance, and financial reporting.
You’ll work closely with plant leadership, Operations, Maintenance, Continuous Improvement, and Finance to connect what’s happening on the production floor to the financial results of the business.
You won’t just report the numbers.
You’ll help improve them.
This role is ideal for someone who is analytical, curious, hands-on, and comfortable asking questions, getting onto the production floor, investigating discrepancies, and working cross-functionally to solve problems.
What You’ll Do
Inventory & Cost Control
-
Own the financial controls surrounding raw materials, packaging, work-in-process, finished goods, and critical spare parts inventory.
-
Establish and continuously improve cycle count, physical inventory, reconciliation, and inventory adjustment processes.
-
Partner with Operations to ensure inventory controls are followed consistently and effectively.
-
Investigate significant or recurring inventory discrepancies, identify root causes, and drive corrective action.
-
Reconcile physical inventory activity to financial records and investigate unexplained differences.
-
Develop reporting that identifies inventory accuracy trends and opportunities for improvement.
-
Partner with Maintenance and Operations to establish appropriate tracking, valuation, and controls for critical spare parts.
-
Recommend and implement controls that improve inventory accuracy and reduce financial exposure.
Standard Costing & Product Cost Management
-
Own and maintain manufacturing standard costs within the Company's ERP system.
-
Establish and validate standards for raw materials, packaging, labor, yields, and manufacturing overhead.
-
Ensure standards reflect actual production processes, material costs, labor requirements, equipment usage, and expected yields.
-
Conduct or coordinate production-floor testing, time studies, yield studies, packaging usage studies, and labor studies.
-
Identify product cost standards that no longer accurately reflect manufacturing activity and recommend updates.
-
Partner with Operations and Continuous Improvement to understand the operational drivers behind product costs and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and margins.
Manufacturing Variance Analysis
-
Analyze monthly manufacturing variances and clearly explain the operational drivers behind financial results.
-
Evaluate material usage, yield, labor efficiency, packaging usage, purchase price, production volume, product mix, dumps, and other manufacturing variances.
-
Investigate unusual, significant, or recurring variances and determine the underlying cause.
-
Distinguish true operating performance from issues caused by incorrect standards, transaction errors, timing differences, inventory inaccuracies, system issues, or incomplete production reporting.
-
Identify trends and recurring drivers and communicate findings to Finance and Operations leadership.
-
Partner with Operations to develop and monitor corrective actions.
-
Challenge results that don’t make sense and keep digging until the story behind the numbers is understood.
Plant Performance & Operations Finance
-
Serve as a trusted Finance partner to plant leadership.
-
Lead regular financial and operational performance reviews with Operations.
-
Provide financial insight into yield, labor efficiency, throughput, dumps, packaging consumption, downtime, production mix, and manufacturing margin.
-
Conduct production-floor testing to validate yields, labor requirements, packaging consumption, and other operating metrics.
-
Partner with Operations and Continuous Improvement to identify opportunities to improve productivity, margins, efficiency, and cost control.
-
Translate financial results into practical, understandable information that plant leaders can use to make better decisions.
-
Respond quickly to emerging issues and help drive solutions rather than allowing problems to accumulate.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
-
Prepare timely plant-level financial analysis and reporting for Finance and Operations leadership.
-
Analyze financial results and identify trends, risks, opportunities, and areas requiring management attention.
-
Support month-end close activities related to manufacturing, inventory, costing, accruals, and plant operations.
-
Ensure plant financial information is accurate, complete, timely, and supported by underlying operational activity.
-
Support budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, audits, and special projects.
-
Provide ad hoc analysis to support business decisions.
