Summary
A family physician provides primary care to Black and African Nova Scotian men in a culturally responsive program, diagnosing conditions and managing chronic disease while collaborating with an interdisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive family medicine services to patients enrolled in the Nova Scotia Brotherhood Program.
- Diagnose and manage acute and chronic medical conditions.
- Deliver preventative care, health promotion, and chronic disease management.
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team that may include nursing, wellness navigation, mental health professionals, and community partners.
- Support culturally responsive and trauma-informed approaches to care.
- Contribute to improving health outcomes and healthcare access for Black and African Nova Scotian men.
Compensation
Family Medicine Alternative Payment Plan (FM APP)
0.2 FTE appointment
Competitive compensation and benefits in accordance with Nova Scotia Health policies and physician agreements.
About Nova Scotia Brotherhood
The Nova Scotia Brotherhood provides culturally appropriate healthcare services for Black and African Nova Scotian men across the Halifax region. The program focuses on improving access to primary care while fostering trust, connection, and long-term wellness through community-based service delivery.
- All applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
- All applicants must be eligible for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC)
- Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
- Demonstrated commitment to health equity, cultural competence, and community engagement.
- Experience working with underserved or equity-deserving populations is considered an asset.
