North West Regional Organised Crime Unit

The North West Regional Organised Crime Unit is a collaborative multi agency covert response to tackle serious and organised crime across the North West Region.

Since 2008 SaferCash is a partnership between the NPCC and the British Security Industry Association, to tackle the threats posed by CVIT, ATM and other physical crime targeting the financial industry.

SaferCash through a national framework serves a vital purpose as a liaison between the Financial Industry and Law Enforcement to facilitate partnership working and intelligence sharing.

Approved by the Home Office and endorsed by the NPCC, SaferCash, which is a not for profit organisation, seeks to provide the Police with a bespoke intelligence platform, from analysing cross border offending, to linking crimes, assisting in identifying OCG’s and well as identifying emerging threats and future hotspot offending locations. Through membership contributions SaferCash funds 5 Police Staff posts, including a field intelligence officer in GMP, alongside 2 National Industry Liaison Officers who form SaferCash’s National Control Centre.

The SaferCash NW Regional Analyst will be embedded in the NWROCU. They will work in partnership with the NPCC and the British Security Industry Association. The appointed individual will work with the already established departments within the Regional Organised Crime Units, the Head of SaferCash, and the SaferCash analytical team based across the West Midlands and London regions to deliver effective intelligence research and analytical products in respect of Organised Acquisitive Crime (OAC) targeting CViT, ATM and Financial Institutions.

Responsibilities include the production of tactical and strategic intelligence products to identify emerging trends and OCGs engaged in CVIT and ATM criminality which further informs ROCUs and Force and Regional TTCGs.

The role provides a regional overview in these specific areas of business and industry initiatives to law enforcement and trusted partner agencies thus adding value to the prevention and investigations already being undertaken at force, regional and national level.

The NWROCU leads the policing response across the region posed by serious and organised crime in Cumbria, Lancashire, Merseyside, Cheshire, Greater Manchester and North Wales. The NWROCU provides the vital link from national capabilities and expertise to local policing and knowledge, enabling the North West region to deliver the Government’s serious and organised Crime strategy and to protect communities from harm.

Further developments in NWROCU’s capabilities are anticipated in the future. Applications received for Operational roles that require mandatory Officer Safety/First Aid training must hold valid in date training or able to undertake upon application.

The post has a two-year funding and the fixed term contact would end on 31st December 2028. This is reviewable and may be extended subject to further funding being granted.

The Grade of this role has been determined using the Merseyside HAY procedure and has been afforded a Merseyside Grade E. This equates to a salary range of £33,603 - £39,276 Successful applicants from other Regional Forces will be paid a salary within this pay range. These are full time roles working ‘flexitime’ however, applicants must be aware that there is a requirement for the post holders to be flexible in relation to working hours.

Successful applicants working within NWROCU will be subject to MV (Management Vetting) and SC (Security Clearance) prior to taking up post.

In cases where the commute to work is in excess of applicant’s current commute the excess travel will be paid.
