Ocean Freight Director
JAS is an international, non-asset-based supply chain services and solutions company. Our services include air and ocean freight forwarding, contract logistics, customs brokerage, distribution, inbound logistics, truckload brokerage and other supply chain management services, including consulting, the coordination of purchase orders and customized management services.
Ocean Freight Director is responsible for 1) implementing the Ocean Freight product at country level, improving service offering and devising new Ocean Freight services to better target potential growth areas, based on the strategies and initiatives created by Global Ocean team, creating, 2) maintaining relationships with carriers, including the negotiation of rates and service level agreement consistent with Global and Regional Carrier Policy,3) training the existing sales force on the intricacies of selling Ocean Freight and assist with RFQ’s, RFP’s and presentations to clients with significant Ocean Freight volume potential.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Monitoring and reporting on the budgetary performance, co-ordination and liaison between sales and operations departments.
- Ensure that the operational practices of the organization are optimized and in line with the Regional and Global guidelines. Increase revenues and volumes. Improve rates and ocean carrier service levels.
- Continual review of country FCL/LCL cost tariffs
- Develop short and mid strategy to further FCL/LCL local cost improvement
- Support on development of a trade lane strategy including volumes, revenues and gross profits. Co-ordination of data gathering, development of objectives and action plan with Global Ocean Freight
- Coordinate the implementation of the trade lane strategy regarding procurement and cargo flow management on respective trade law within the geographical region.
- Analyze trade lanes and capacities based on cargo flows, carrier shares, net-achieved costs on respective trade lanes and align capacity planning
- Co-ordinates and assist in preparing and conducting the ocean parts of tenders (RFQ/RFP). Provide market information to the Global Ocean Team on market rate levels, capacity etc.
- Execute strategic trade lane procurement based on the capacity plans provided from trade lane management; Co-ordinate with the global team and delegate procurement activities, where possible.
- Develop carrier evaluation methodology and guidelines
Monitor and control core carriers’ coordinate local performance reviews and consolidate performance feedback for global review meetings.

- Conduct performance evaluation for direct reports
- Recommend hiring, firing and promotion
- Identify and resolve personnel issues
- Ongoing coaching and mentoring of staff to develop skills to the highest level
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent organizational (prioritize, plan, assign and control) and time management skills.
- Strong passion for accuracy
- Excellent written and verbal skills.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office suite.
- Detail oriented, able to multitask and meet deadlines.
- Self-motivated, able to work with a team and also independently.
- Understanding of regulatory compliance with import and export rules and regulations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration/Economics/Logistics or Freight Forwarding apprenticeship.
- At least 15 years of working experience in manager position at logistics companies.
- Knowledge of procedures for international and domestic freight, trucking and warehouse services.
ENVIRONMENT:
100% performed in climate-controlled internal office environment working under normal office conditions.
