Office Services Graduate Assistant (Fall 2026 C91104)
Summary
Assists with office services and gift shop operations, handling customer service, cashiering, mail distribution, and inventory tasks in a campus environment.
Looking for a graduate assistant to work 8 hours a week, specifically on Wednesdays and Thursday mornings in Office Services/Gift Shop.
Under the supervision of the Office Services Coordinator, performs a list of duties described below.
This is for the Fall of 2026 and if interested continuing into Spring term of 2027.
Office Services/Gift shop can often be a fast-paced work environment to include heavy interaction with the MIIS Community. Ideal candidates will be self-motivated, fast learners who possess the ability to multi-task.
Core Responsibilities:
- Customer service
- Cashier in Office Services and Gift Shop
- Sort and distribute mail/packages to appropriate departments. Receive and log in packages
- Prepare and process outgoing domestic and international mail/packages
- Fulfill print requests and copy requests
- Inventory and stocking of Gift Shop
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
Required Skills:
- Excellent customer service skills
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Cash handling experience and knowledge of U.S. currency
- Ability to coordinate, organize and prioritize assignments to meet deadlines
- Willingness and ability to adapt to new technology and systems
- Willingness and ability to comply with Institute policies and procedures to include following safe work practices.
Additional Information:
- Attention to detail, customer service skills and patience are a must.
- This position requires moderate to heavy physical exertion.
- Requires ability to stand for extended periods of time and to occasionally deliver mail and packages to various buildings on campus.
- Repetitive motion to sort large quantities of mail into departmental mailboxes.
- Requires ability to move 25-40 lbs on a frequent basis.
Student Employment Eligibility:
Unless restricted by certain visa status, all students with an active status for the semester are eligible for jobs on campus.
Students on leave or withdrawn are not eligible to work in student employment positions until the semester in which they return. If you are currently withdrawn or on leave you are eligible to be employed in staff positions.
Some may be restricted due to financial aid status. International students (non-resident aliens) may not work off campus unless they have applied for and received work authorization from the United States government. (An F-1 visa does not give work authorization.) Off campus work study positions are available only to U.S. citizens on financial aid with a federal work study component.
Student are not eligible to work remotely from International locations.
Hour Limitations:
All student employees are limited to working no more than 20 hours per week in on campus jobs during the academic year (this includes exam periods). The only exception is when there is a full week when school is not in session. Specifically: February recess, Spring recess, and full weeks of December or summer recess. During these time periods only, students can work up to 40 hours per week. International Students: Visa restrictions prohibit international students from exceeding 20 hours of work per academic calendar week.
