Onboard Telecom Systems Integration Engineer

Hitachi Rail in Naples (Italy) seeks an enthusiastic Telecom System Integration Engineer to lead end-to-end management of the OnBoard Passenger and Information System (OBIS) and its subsystems. The role covers configuration, integration, testing, and field support across hardware, software, and networks.

Manage and maintain the Onboard Passenger & Information System (OBIS) and all integrated subsystems. Configure operating systems, network components, software services, and onboard devices. Perform system diagnostics, troubleshooting, and log/packet analysis to resolve technical issues. Validate interfaces and data flows between onboard and wayside systems. Support field activities during testing, commissioning, and service introduction. Deploy software updates, patches, configurations, and perform routine health checks. Monitor system performance, identify anomalies, and implement corrective actions. Collaborate with engineering, software, telecom, and commissioning teams to integrate solutions. Translate design and interface documentation into operational configurations and validation procedures. Prepare technical reports, findings, and documentation following field activities. Full ownership of the railway onboard environment across hardware, software, operating systems, networks, data flows, interfaces, and field conditions. Experience managing Linux (Oracle/RHEL) and Windows Server platforms, including troubleshooting, scripting (Bash/Python/PowerShell), log and packet analysis, performance monitoring, disk/filesystem management, scheduling (cron/Task Scheduler), log rotation, and operation of cluster/high-availability environments. Ability to manage physical/virtual interfaces, configure VLANs and routing, and perform advanced network troubleshooting with packet-level diagnostics. Knowledge of REST APIs, SIP, RTP/RTSP, MQTT, and telecom communication protocols. Containerization & Microservices: Docker, Swarm, Portainer, container lifecycle management, and microservice-based distributed architectures. Documentation & Design Interpretation: interpret ICDs, workflows, and architecture diagrams into configurations and validation tasks.
