The Department of Clinical and Health Information Sciences
The Department of Clinical and Health Information Sciences (CHIS) is one of the academic units in the College of Allied Health Sciences. The department offers undergraduate degrees in Medical Laboratory Science, Respiratory Therapy, and Advanced Medical Imaging Technology. The department also has four graduate programs in Medical Laboratory Sciences Leadership, Respiratory Therapy, Health Informatics, and the Doctor of Clinical Laboratory Science. The department is physically located in the Health Sciences building located on the UC Academic Health Center.
Job Overview
The University of Cincinnati's Advanced Medical Imaging Technology Program is searching for a full-time Educator Track faculty member who will serve as the General Sonography Program Director. The faculty member will also contribute to the department's teaching, service, and scholarship goals. This is a 12-month position in a fully on-campus, in person program with the expectation that the faculty member will work the majority of the time on campus. Rank will be commensurate with education and experience. The preferred start date is January 2027.
Advanced Medical Imaging Technology Program
The Advanced Medical Imaging Technology program combines the needs of students, health care providers, the public, and the University to cultivate a program for preparing competent, credentialed medical imaging professionals. The UC AMIT Program offers a baccalaureate degree with multi-medical imaging technology credentials and single modality certificate pathways. The curriculum focuses on medical imaging modalities of nuclear medicine, magnetic resonance imaging, general sonography (beginning Fall 2027), and cardiovascular sonography (beginning Fall 2028). Graduates of this program will have obtained the level of didactic and clinical training necessary to meet eligibility requirements for national board examinations in their chosen modality/modalities. Baccalaureate seeking students also focus a portion of their curriculum on a capstone course series providing a bridge for career and academic advancement.
Essential Functions
- This position is primarily responsible for teaching and service in the AMIT program Sonography track, the Clinical and Health Information Sciences Department and the College of Allied Health Sciences.
- Teaching and service responsibilities include, but are not limited to, course development and curriculum assessment; primary instruction of didactic and laboratory courses, leadership with and mentoring of the clinical coordinator and adjunct faculty, student advising and mentoring, including culminating experiences services on program committees; and tasks as assigned by Department Chair.
- The primary teaching responsibilities include courses within the AMIT Program as assigned. While teaching and service are central to this position, scholarship activities are also required with the mission of the program and the University.
- As the Program Director, the duties will also include program directorship for the General Sonography accreditation that includes structure and daily program operations; the organization, administration, periodic review and evaluation, continued development, and effectiveness of the program curricula; and ensuring the effectiveness of all clinical affiliates.
- The Program Director must also assist with program recruitment, retention, admissions, and academic advisement of current and prospective students.
Minimum Requirements
- Baccalaureate degree in relevant health-related field.
- Possess and maintain appropriate credential(s) specific to one or more of the sonography concentrations offered by the AMIT Program (abdominal and/or obstetrics/gynecologic sonography).
- Three or more years of full-time clinical experience as a registered sonographer in the professional sonography field.
- Two years of teaching experience as an adjunct instructor or one full year of full-time teaching at the college level in the didactic and/or clinical setting for a sonography program.
- Documented experience in supervision, instruction, evaluation, student guidance in educational theories and techniques.
- Eligibility for Sonography program director approval by the JRCDMS and CAAHEP accreditation agencies.
Additional Qualifications Considered
- Master’s degree in education or a health-related field from a regionally accredited or nationally accredited academic institution.
- Doctorate degree in education or health-related field from a regionally or nationally accredited academic institution.
- Specific sonography credentials with abdominal and obstetrics/gynecology from the ARDMS and/or ARRT.
- Prior experience as a Sonography Program Director.
- Current knowledge and skill in the use of computer technology and educational learning systems.
- Prior scholarly works published or presented.
- Strong organizational skills; strong interpersonal skills, including communication, problem solving, counseling, conflict management, and follow-through.

- Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to present complex material to students unfamiliar with a subject.
- Additional imaging credentials such as Echocardiography, vascular sonography, nuclear medicine or MRI.
