ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:

The Department of Surgery at the University of South Florida, Morsani College of Medicine is seeking an academic Open Rank - Surgical Oncology/HPB Faculty to join the Division of Oncology Surgery.

The University of South Florida, Department of Surgery invites applications for a mid-career Academic Surgical Oncologist with expertise in HBP surgery and strong interest in advancing our robotic HBP program. This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the nation's fastest growing academic health systems. USF Morsani College of Medicine has earned U.S. News and World Report Tier 1 designation for research, placing it among the top 16 research intensive medical schools for the second consecutive year. In addition, the Department of Surgery is ranked amongst the Top 50 departments for NIH funding. Tampa General Hospital Cancer Institute, despite its young age, has been recognized among the Top 10% of cancer centers nationally, ranked # 78 in Cancer Care for 2026 nationally. Tampa General Hospital has established substantial investment at the Cancer Institute as well as in advanced Minimally Invasive Surgery.
Candidates should be Board Certified in General Surgery and fellowship trained in Complex Surgical Oncology or HBP Surgery. Demonstrated expertise in HBP surgery and strong interest in robotic surgery is highly preferred. Applicants with a record in academic scholarship are encouraged to apply. Associate Professor and Professor level candidates are welcomed, although exceptional Assistant Professor candidates will also be considered. Faculty appointment at USF Morsani School of Medicine with Academic Rank commensurate with experience.



Provide quality bedside teaching to students and residents. Complete medical student and resident evaluation in timely fashion. Participate in weekly M&M and resident education.

Active participation and enrollment in clinical trials.

Opportunity to enhance an already existing HBP robotic program within a rapidly expanding cancer center.
High Volume and expanding referral base.
Multiple organized Tumor Boards and close collaboration with Advanced Endoscopists, Medical and Radiation Oncology, Genetics and Palliative care.
Participation in teaching Surgical Residents and Medical Students.

Responsible to a Chair or other appropriate higher level administrator of a State university. Responsible for teaching, service, and related activities. May be responsible for research and/or academic advising and related activities. May represent the university, college/school, or department/unit on university and/or Statewide committees.

MINIMUM:

Doctoral or Medical degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service.
Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor.
