About this role
This role drives the strategic eradication of operational manual repetition ("toil") across the Center of Enablement within W Digital. Acting as the Continuous Service Improvement (CSI) bridge between the frontline Support Core and engineering pipelines, the Operations Automation Lead analyzes support workloads, diagnoses repetitive operational friction, defines automated runbook parameters, and guides an engineering team to turn human troubleshooting routines into code-driven, self-healing software loops.
What you'll do
- Toil Analytics & Queue Auditing: Conduct daily audits of ticket logs and alerts across W Digital domains to uncover recurring manual verifications, routine data resets, and system check patterns.
- Automation Requirements Definition: Collaborate directly with frontline support engineers to translate manual, text-heavy troubleshooting steps into structured logical workflows and technical specifications for script development.
- Automation Backlog & Project Prioritization: Manage the centralized backlog of automation opportunities, prioritizing high-impact toil-elimination projects across domains.
- Cross-Regional Alignment: Partner closely with Sydney-based Operations Specialists to verify that automated workflows adhere to localized domain guardrails and retail trade safety windows.
- Engineering Mentorship & Upskilling: Coach and guide associate and intermediate engineers to adopt code-first, automation-centric mindsets and practices.
- Out-of-Hours & On-Call Triage: Participate in an on-call rotation to monitor critical alerts, perform pre-trade health checks, and execute standard remediation runbooks outside core business hours, escalating issues that exceed runbook scope.
What you'll bring
- DevOps / SRE / CSI Governance: 6+ years of hands-on experience in modern DevOps, SRE process governance, continuous service improvement (CSI), or operational workflow optimization within large-scale IT environments.
- Process Mapping & Workflow Automation: Expert ability to deconstruct complex, manual runbooks into abstract logic diagrams, structured flowcharts, and automated runbook criteria.
- Scripting Language Literacy: Functional competence in automation languages and scripting patterns (such as Python, Go, and Bash) to evaluate, review, and validate developed scripts.
- Observability & Alert Tracing: Practical skill navigating enterprise observability suites (e.g., Dynatrace, Datadog, Grafana) to pinpoint alert sources and isolate repetitive failure signals.
- ITIL & Data Tagging Collaboration: Demonstrated experience working alongside ITIL and analytics teams to improve ticket classification and expose recurring problem loops.
- Intolerance for Manual Inefficiency: Possesses an active bias against manual, repetitive tasks, instinctively looking to transform human interventions into software automation.
