Position Overview
- Responsible for sourcing, vetting, and managing relationships with motor carriers (trucking companies) to transport freight, while simultaneously resolving operational, billing, or service issues. This role combines high-level negotiation for spot and contract freight with real-time, hands-on troubleshooting.
Key Responsibilities
- Carrier Procurement & Sourcing: Identifying, vetting, and onboarding new motor carriers to support capacity needs, often using transportation management systems (TMS).
- Negotiation & Rate Management: Negotiating freight rates and contracts with carriers to ensure cost-effective, competitive pricing.
- Issue Resolution & Troubleshooting: Addressing and resolving problems related to carrier performance, such as missed appointments, tracking issues, or equipment failures.
- Relationship Management: Building and maintaining long-term partnerships with carriers to ensure consistent, reliable capacity.
- Documentation & Compliance: Managing compliance with carrier safety protocols, insurance requirements, and contractual obligations.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Experience: 4+ previous experience in freight brokerage, carrier sales, or logistics coordination.
- Skills: Strong negotiation, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
- Knowledge: Understanding of transportation modes, rate structures, and supply chain network design.
- Tools: Familiarity with Transportation Management Systems (TMS), CRM software, and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
