Scope of the Role
- Operational leadership role responsible for workshop operations, supply chain management, vendor performance, facility readiness, and compliance
- No direct responsibility for engineering design decisions or technical authority
- Critical enabler for successful project execution, material availability, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction
- On-site workshop-based position with occasional domestic travel
- Direct leadership responsibility for workshop operations support personnel
Bertrandt is seeking an experienced Supply Chain and Workshop Operations Manager to oversee the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of a prototype vehicle workshop and its supporting supply chain functions. This leader will ensure qualified vendors, materials, infrastructure, operational processes, and safety controls are available when needed to support successful workshop execution and project delivery.
The position owns operational readiness across materials management, logistics, supplier performance, facility operations, safety compliance, and continuous process improvement while partnering closely with project management, engineering, corporate functions, procurement, finance, and compliance teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership and Planning
- Lead day-to-day workshop operations and ensure operational readiness of staffing, equipment, materials, workspace, and supporting services
- Align priorities, capacity, and resource availability with project managers, engineering leads, workshop leads, and business stakeholders
- Serve as the escalation point for operational constraints, supply chain disruptions, facility issues, and vendor performance concerns
- Develop operational plans, budgets, forecasts, KPIs, and management reporting in coordination with project leadership
- Coordinate business continuity, backup coverage, and recovery plans for critical operational processes
Supply Chain, Materials & Inventory Management
- Oversee the end-to-end flow of materials, components, consumables, tools, and workshop assets from planning through disposition
- Coordinate purchasing requests and parts ordering in accordance with approved requirements, budgets, and authorization processes
- Ensure inventory accuracy through traceability, cycle counts, stock controls, reorder point management, and reconciliation processes
- Proactively manage shortages, lead-time risks, excess inventory, and obsolescence concerns
- Oversee domestic and international shipping activities, customs documentation, brokerage coordination, and import/export compliance requirements
- Establish and maintain appropriate storage, handling, labeling, segregation, and preservation standards
Vendor Qualification & Supplier Management
- Coordinate vendor identification, qualification, onboarding, approval, and periodic requalification activities
- Partner with Procurement, Compliance, Finance, IT, Quality, and other stakeholders to ensure supplier compliance requirements are satisfied
- Verify completion and maintenance of vendor documentation such as insurance certificates, tax forms, quality certifications, contracts, and regulatory records
- Define service levels, scopes of work, acceptance criteria, and operational expectations for workshop, logistics, facility, and supply vendors
- Monitor vendor performance through KPIs focused on quality, delivery, responsiveness, cost, compliance, and risk management
- Maintain approved vendor records and support supplier audits, corrective actions, remediation plans, suspensions, or offboarding activities when required
Workshop & Facility Management
- Own workshop layout, space allocation, storage management, utilities, work areas, housekeeping standards, and infrastructure planning
- Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance activities for workshop equipment, tools, building systems, and utility services
- Manage workshop access controls, visitor procedures, badge administration, asset protection, and customer-specific security requirements
- Plan and implement infrastructure improvements to support changing business and project needs
- Maintain records related to maintenance, calibration, inspections, permits, and service providers as applicable
Safety, Environmental & Regulatory Compliance
- Implement and monitor workplace safety procedures consistent with OSHA requirements, customer expectations, and internal standards
- Coordinate risk assessments, inspections, safety training, incident investigations, corrective actions, and emergency preparedness activities
- Ensure compliant handling, storage, labeling, documentation, and transportation of hazardous materials and dangerous goods
- Maintain audit-ready records and support customer, regulatory, internal, and certification audits
- Partner with Environmental Health & Safety, Security, Legal, and Compliance representatives on matters requiring subject matter expertise
Team Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop Operations Specialists and workshop support personnel
- Establish responsibilities, priorities, objectives, and performance expectations aligned with project management goals
- Plan schedules, assign work, monitor execution, and address performance or capability gaps
- Ensure employees and temporary personnel receive required process, safety, equipment, and site training before performing assigned duties
- Promote accountability, collaboration, operational excellence, and continuous improvement
Process Excellence & Corporate Coordination
- Document, standardize, and improve processes related to procurement support, inventory management, logistics, vendor management, workshop operations, facilities, safety, and reporting
- Implement practical controls that improve transparency, scalability, segregation of duties, accuracy, and audit readiness
- Utilize operational data and KPIs to improve inventory accuracy, vendor performance, service levels, cost management, and issue resolution
- Act as the primary operational liaison with Bertrandt US corporate functions and support implementation of global standards and initiatives
- Support cross-functional projects and additional operational responsibilities as required
