Operations Manager - Ironing Factory
Lead a high-performing logistics operation where safety, people and performance come first
Are you an experienced Operations Manager who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys taking ownership and knows that great performance starts with a strong health and safety culture?
At GXO’s site in Lelystad, you’ll take the lead for a busy logistics operation of approximately 50 permanent employees and 100+ flex employees. This is a visible leadership role with end-to-end responsibility for site performance, giving you the opportunity to shape the way the operation runs, strengthen standards and create an environment where colleagues can work safely, efficiently and with pride.
You’ll be close to the floor and close to the strategy: balancing day-to-day execution with continuous improvement, customer delivery, financial discipline and long-term operational development. If you’re motivated by leading people, raising standards and making a tangible impact, this role gives you the platform to do exactly that.
What you’ll lead
As Operations Manager, you’ll own the overall performance of the Lelystad site, leading through your managers and teams to deliver safe, compliant, efficient and customer-focused operations. You will:
- Put health and safety at the heart of daily decision-making, role-modelling the right behaviours and ensuring safe, compliant ways of working across the site
- Lead daily operational execution in a fast-paced logistics environment, keeping quality, productivity, service and safety standards aligned
- Take full ownership of the site’s operational and financial performance, including budgets, labour planning, cost control and productivity
- Use KPIs, dashboards and data insights to understand performance, identify root causes and drive meaningful corrective and preventive actions
- Champion LEAN, continuous improvement and process standardisation to improve quality, efficiency, flow and colleague experience
- Lead, coach and develop a multi-layered team, building capability, engagement, accountability and a strong succession pipeline
- Plan and allocate people, workload and resources in collaboration with support functions and the customer, especially during peak and changing volumes
- Build a trusted relationship with the customer, acting as a credible operational partner and key point of contact for site performance
- Maintain robust procedures, documentation and compliance standards while creating an inclusive environment where colleagues feel safe, supported and able to perform at their best
- Work closely with the wider GXO organisation to share best practice, solve challenges and deliver against both local and business-wide expectations
What you’ll bring
We’re looking for a senior operational leader who is comfortable in a hands-on environment, confident making decisions and passionate about building safe, high-performing teams. You’ll ideally bring:
- Significant experience in warehouse, logistics, supply chain or a comparable fast-paced operational environment
- A strong track record of leading leaders and developing operational teams through coaching, clear expectations and visible leadership
- A genuine commitment to health and safety, with the confidence to challenge, improve standards and build a proactive safety culture
- Experience owning operational and financial performance, including budgets, labour costs, productivity and performance improvement
- The ability to stay calm, resilient and solutions-focused under pressure, without compromising safety, quality or people standards
- Strong analytical and reporting skills, with the ability to turn data into practical action on the floor
- A continuous improvement mindset, with experience using structured problem-solving and process improvement approaches
- Strong communication skills in English; Dutch language skills would be an advantage
- The confidence to partner with customers, support functions and senior stakeholders while remaining connected to the day-to-day operation
What’s in it for you
- A senior leadership role with real ownership of your own GXO site in Lelystad
- The opportunity to shape a safety-first, people-focused operation and make a visible impact from day one
- A salary of up to €80,000 gross per year, depending on experience, excluding bonus and other secondary benefits
- Clear and visible career paths within a global organisation that invests in leadership development and internal progression
- A culture built on safety, teamwork, accountability and continuous improvement, where your ideas and leadership will be valued
- The chance to lead a stable operation while continuing to raise standards, improve processes and develop future talent
