Operations Manager

Summary:
Supervises and coordinates manufacturing activities on the factory floor. Ensures that Safety, Quality, Delivery and Productivity levels meet the standards established by the Company. Supervises the activities of the Production Supervisors. Reports to the Plant Manager.

Primary Responsibilities:
1. Directs and coordinates activities of manufacturing departments through subordinate Supervisors or Lead People.
2. Works with Human Resources to recruit Full-time and Seasonal hourly employees.
3. Makes recommendations for Capital and Operating Budgets that result in the realization of plant manufacturing priorities, goals, and objectives.
4. Establishes standards of performance and develop measuring and monitoring tools to achieve compliance.
5. Ensures the warehouse maintains company standards of inventory levels and delivery schedules.
6. Organizes and manages warehouse resources to maximize the efficiency of the company’s investment in people, plant, and equipment resources.
7. Develops internal resources to attain continuous process improvements and cost reduction initiatives.
8. Coordinates with the Customer Service Representatives to ensure consistent achievement of proper customer service levels.
9. Ensures compliance with Safety, Quality, Delivery, Productivity and Housekeeping standards.
10. Collaborates with the Plant Manager, Lau Corporate Manufacturing Engineering Manager, and plant Maintenance department to ensure the proper maintenance of machines, equipment, and facilities.
11. Collaborates with the Tool Room Supervisor, Plant Manufacturing Engineer and Plant Manager to ensure the tooling is in proper working condition and provides support to the preventive maintenance system.
12. Ensures robust quality standards and procedures are followed by all warehouse employees. Establishes controls to meet quality and scrap goals.
13. Works with the Human Resources department to maintain employee relations, training, plant staffing, Safety Committee participation, and compliance with safety standards.
14. Completes performance reviews in a timely manner for direct reports.
15. Monitors employee training programs for adherence to company policy.
16. Reviews hourly employee performance reviews to ensure a consistent and fair evaluation process exists at all times.
Supervisory Responsibility:
Supervision of Production Supervisors as required and assigned.

Travel:
Travel is rare (less than 15%) for customer and supplier visits.

Confidentiality:
Has access to all cost and process data. Handles personnel and salary information of manufacturing employees. Has access to Company financial statements.

Education Required:
Four-year college degree, or eight years of comparable management experience.

Experience Required:
Over three years of managerial supervision, preferably in a manufacturing environment.

Other:
Good communication skills, both verbal and written. Must be a self-starter and capable of working with a minimum of direct supervision. Must be able to work with a wide variety of duties/responsibilities and be able to deal with complex issues that are not easily evaluated, and which there may be little precedent.
