Operations Supervisor

Position Summary
The Operations Assistant Manager (Supervisor) is a critical leadership position between the Drayage Operations Manager and the Dispatch team. The role oversees day-to-day dispatching, driver scheduling, freight movement, and operational coordination while supervising a team of 4–5 Dispatchers.
Key Responsibilities
1. Operational Leadership & Execution
- Oversee daily dispatch planning, driver scheduling, and load assignment for Savannah or Mobile terminal operations.
- Monitor freight movement to ensure on-time pickups, deliveries, and port appointments.
- Review and approve dispatcher updates to TMS/dispatch systems, ensuring accurate status, ETA, and load completion records.
- Maintain oversight of equipment utilization, including chassis, trucks, and container movements.
2. Team Supervision & Development
- Supervise 4–5 Dispatchers and ensure adequate operational coverage during business hours.
- Provide daily direction, guidance, and performance feedback to dispatch staff.
- Conduct coaching, corrective action, and skill development training as needed.
- Ensure dispatchers follow standardized procedures and meet KPI targets (on-time rate, detention capture, customer updates).
- Support staffing decisions, including interviewing, onboarding, and training new dispatchers.
3. Customer & Inter-Department Coordination
- Serve as a key operational point of contact for customer service and terminal-related inquiries.
- Resolve customer issues related to scheduling, delays, or service exceptions.
- Communicate proactively with customers regarding load status, driver delays, and schedule changes.
- Coordinate operational needs with other departments, including Safety, Accounting, and Maintenance.
- Assist in managing terminal relationships with GPA, APM, and other port/rail facilities.
4. Safety, Compliance & Performance Monitoring
- Ensure full compliance with FMCSA/DOT regulations and company safety policies.
- Monitor driver HOS, ELD compliance, and safety flags; escalate violations appropriately.
5. Reporting & Administrative Oversight
- Review and approve driver settlements, detention, and chassis fee reports.
- Review dispatcher reports, driver attendance logs, and daily operational summaries.
- Oversee detention, chassis, and demurrage documentation for accuracy before submitting to
Accounting. - Maintain accurate staffing schedules, driver rosters, and operational calendars.
Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred (Logistics, Business, or related field).
- 3–5 years of experience in drayage, intermodal, or trucking operations, including dispatch leadership or supervisory responsibilities.
- Strong understanding of port operations, container logistics, and terminal systems (GPA, APM, MA, ITS, etc.).
- Working knowledge of FMCSA/DOT compliance regulations, HOS, and ELD systems.
- Proven ability to supervise teams in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and TMS/dispatch platforms.
Work Schedule and Location
- Primary work location is Duluth, GA.
- Workweek: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (or as dictated by terminal operations).
- On-call availability for urgent operational or customer issues. Occasional travel to branch offices (Mobile, AL / Savannah, GA
and other area) may be required.
