About the role

We are looking for an Operations Support colleague to join our Services Department at DS Smith Louth.

The Services Department plays an important role in supporting production by ensuring the correct tooling and equipment is available for the machines in line with the production running schedule. You will be responsible for ensuring tooling and related equipment is maintained, cleaned, repaired and stored correctly, helping our production teams operate safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.

This is a hands-on role where you will work closely with internal teams, external suppliers and customers, while supporting a strong culture of safety, quality, housekeeping and continuous improvement.

Role responsibilities

• Ensure your own safety and the safety of colleagues at all times, following DS Smith policies, procedures and relevant legislation.
• Provide forms and patch sheets to meet internal and external customer requirements and support the set-up of die-cutting jobs when required.
• Inspect, clean, maintain and store forms following every production run, reporting defects or issues with tooling, machinery and equipment.
• Replace worn knives, rubbers and perforations where required, including ordering replacement parts and materials.
• Carry out regular stock checks and ensure pre-setting equipment, tooling and other required materials are available when needed.
• Complete monthly reports and KPIs, including ink reporting, and accurately enter and retrieve information using company systems.
• Support the Services Department across different areas when required, including providing cover for other roles and assisting with general production/services activities.
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping, cleanliness and organisation, ensuring tools, equipment and chemicals are stored correctly.
• Identify opportunities to reduce waste, reuse resources where possible and minimise the use of ink, water, electricity and other materials.
• Take part in safety activities including risk assessments, routine safety checks and completing monthly Observation Cards.
• Support the training and development of team members, while continuing to develop your own skills through relevant training and development programmes.
• Ensure full compliance with BRC food safety requirements and all relevant environmental, quality and company procedures.

• Comfortable working in a production environment where priorities can change and teamwork is essential.
• Willing to learn new skills, undertake training and support the development of others.
• Quality-focused, with an understanding of the importance of maintaining equipment and tooling to the required standards.
• Proactive in identifying problems, reporting defects and looking for ways to improve safety, quality, efficiency and waste reduction.
