Responsibilities
The OR Service Coordinator helps to plan, organize, and direct the specialty services within their service lines by establishing and preparing to deliver unique services in surgical care. This includes planning for and oversight of training, supplies, equipment, and instrumentation for the delivery of surgical care across the continuum of their services. The OR Service Coordinator is integral in evaluating service needs, care delivery related to quality, safety, and efficiency of care for the surgical patient.
- Establishes and maintains relationships with vendors/physicians and physician offices
- Assists with cost saving initiatives, working with the leadership and Business Manager for OR
- Assists teams to ensure sterilization process is adhered to. Works with SPD to obtain recommended policies and parameters to effectively provide sterilization of equipment/instrumentation
- Assists with in-service and training for staff on specialty related equipment and instrumentation. Provides on-going review of related topics to personnel at all levels
- Acts as a preceptor for new staff, working closely with the OR Educator
- Coordinates pre-procedure phone calls, post-procedure phone calls, and data collection for outcomes studies/PI projects
- Delegates work assignments to the appropriate team members to ensure quick, safe room turn overs, equipment preparation, and transport/monitoring patients. Work is delegated fairly among available knowledgeable staff. Will cover any specialty need as it arises themselves by relief in case of staffing need
- Ensures all supplies and equipment is available by making rounds, attending Scheduling Huddle to coordinate to avoid any equipment conflicts. Ensures all equipment is available, functioning and has been checked by Bio-med if necessary
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
1. Three to five (3-5) years of operating room/surgical experience - Must have Robotic experience General Surgery, GYN, and Urology
2. Ability to work as part of a cohesive leadership team
3. Leadership experience preferred
4. Excellent communication, facilitation and delegation skills
5. Experience in an operating room. Familiarity with equipment and instruments used in this area, medical terminology, supply management experience. Knowledge of computer systems used in the operating room and materials management. Excellent organizational skills and work with minimal supervision.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
1. Two (2) years of surgical experience in a clinical specialty service line.
2. Leadership oversight.
3. Experience with mentorship, education and training of staff nurses.
4. BSN degree.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
1. NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License.
2. AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.
Licenses and Certifications Preferred: 1. Certified Nurse Operating Room within one year.
