Responsibilities:

  • Providing individualized instruction and support to students with blindness or visual impairments

  • Assessing students' needs and developing appropriate learning materials and mobility plans

  • Teaching orientation and mobility skills, including safe and independent travel techniques

  • Adapting classroom and school environments to ensure accessibility for students

  • Preparing students with visual impairments to travel independently and safely

  • Performing evaluations focused on both long- and short-term mobility needs

  • Developing instruction tailored to students’ assessed needs, IEP goals and objectives, functioning level, and motivation

  • Preparing and using specialized equipment and materials such as tactile maps, models, optical devices, pre-canes, and GPS devices

  • Instructing students in recreational and leisure skills, outdoor travel, and use of residential and public transportation


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in teaching for the Visually Impaired and/or Orientation and Mobility

  • PA Orientation and Mobility Specialist certificate
