The Staff Orthopedic Surgeon is located in Specialty Care at the VA Providence Healthcare System (VAPHCS) Major Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: The Orthopedic staff surgeon maintains professional, technical and administrative knowledge, competencies and skills to provide effective care and timely and quality responses to patient's clinical needs and problems. Patients seen and treated CAN range from 18 through the geriatric years. The staff surgeon complies with credentialing and privileging. Maintains high clinical and ethical standards that are carried into decision-making processes and takes an active role in effective teaching of residents and/or medical students, when applicable, and accomplishing the Medical Center's and the Surgical Service's mission and goals. Promotes constructive problem resolution and promotes the development of health care professionals through counseling, mentoring, teaching and encouraging self-assessment, when requested. Complies with current standards for medical record documentation and residency supervision and assumes accountability for professional and administrative activities within the section. The above responsibilities outline the staff surgeon's responsibility for achieving quality patient care. Evaluate and treat patients presenting with shoulder pathology Perform shoulder arthroplasty procedures Maintain a general orthopedic surgery caseload Provide service consisting of the diagnosis, care and treatment of patients consulted to the Orthopedic Section; provides and promotes high quality and effective care of its patients; and Supervises and teaches residents and/or medical students. Utilizes electronic medical records to accurately document treatment in a timely manner. Participates in service level and/or hospital committee and participates in the facility peer review program. Assist with improving clinical access by participating in patient care activities outside the normal duty hours. Call coverage may be required and also participates in but not limited to taking phone calls from hospital staff and residents, coming into the facility nights or week-ends to manage care in the hospital or emergency room, if medically warranted, and providing surgery or performing appropriate surgical procedure on an emergency basis VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package.
