Job Description
Currently we are seeking an Outside Sales Representative to cover our Southern Mississippi territory. This position will develop and manage customer relationships while generating sales of pumps and related equipment for municipal water and wastewater, commercial HVAC, wastewater treatment/process, fire protection, and industrial applications.
The Outside Sales Representative will work closely with customers, consulting engineers, contractors, vendors, manufacturers, and FPP personnel to identify opportunities, develop solutions, prepare quotations, and manage projects from initial inquiry through delivery and startup.
This is a technical sales position, but previous pump or industry experience is not required. We are looking for someone with strong interpersonal skills, technical aptitude, a willingness to learn, and a customer-focused mindset
Position Responsibilities
Develop and maintain long-term relationships with existing and prospective customers throughout the Southern Mississippi territory.
Make regular sales calls and identify opportunities to grow business within the territory.
Work with customers and consulting engineers to understand applications, select equipment, and develop project specifications.
Review plans and specifications and prepare technical equipment proposals and quotations for bid projects and customer inquiries.
Learn and understand pump curves, equipment applications, materials of construction, and the products represented by FPP.
Manage sales opportunities and projects from initial inquiry through quotation, order, delivery, startup, and follow-up.
Track sales opportunities and communicate project and account status to FPP management.
Coordinate with customers, engineers, contractors, manufacturers, vendors, and FPP personnel throughout the sales and project process.
Respond to customer requests, problems, and concerns with professionalism and a strong sense of urgency.
Assist in resolving conflicts and de-escalating difficult situations while working toward solutions that support the customer and FPP.
Occasionally assist with equipment startups, field measurements, troubleshooting, and other hands-on customer needs.
Be willing to work in construction, wastewater, mechanical, and industrial environments and assist in the field when necessary to support our customers.
Minimum Requirements
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills with a positive, professional, and customer-focused attitude.
Organized, dependable, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple projects and priorities.
Proficient with computers, email, Microsoft Office, and common business applications.
Ability and willingness to travel regularly throughout Southern Mississippi.
Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
Willingness and ability to learn technical products, applications, plans, specifications, and equipment selection.
Willingness to occasionally perform hands-on work in field and jobsite environments.
Desired Skills & Experience
Previous experience in outside sales, technical sales, pumps, engineering, construction, water/wastewater, commercial HVAC, fire protection, or industrial equipment preferred.
Ability to read plans, specifications, technical drawings, or the aptitude and willingness to learn.
Mechanical, technical, and basic electrical aptitude.
Knowledge of centrifugal pumps, process equipment, controls, and VFD applications is a plus.
Strong organizational and project-management skills.
Ability to build relationships with customers, engineers, contractors, and other industry professionals.
Accountable, proactive, and business-growth oriented.
Ability to remain professional and solution-focused when dealing with difficult or time-sensitive situations.
