Overhire House Managers play a key leadership role in Juilliard's Front of House (FOH) operations. As the lead representative during performances and events, House Managers supervise student ushers, ensure adherence to policies, and create a safe, welcoming, and professional environment for all patrons. They serve as the primary point of contact between Front of House staff, Box Office, Production, and Public Safety, coordinating event operations from pre-show preparations through post-show close.
This position requires strong leadership, clear communication, and the ability to remain calm and decisive in high-pressure situations. House Managers are expected to model professionalism at all times, ensuring both the patron experience and the development of the student usher team.
This role reports to the Public Performance Operations Lead. The rate for this role is $25.00/hour.

Role Responsibilities:
- Supervise, mentor, and direct student FOH staff during events.
- Conduct pre-show briefings, assigning usher placements and communicating event-specific notes.
- Collaborate with Box Office, Production, and Public Safety to ensure smooth performance operations.
- Oversee all FOH tasks, including ADA seating, program distribution, signage, and house/lobby readiness.
- Ensure usher responsibilities are fulfilled; if coverage is unavailable, assume those duties directly (ticket scanning, seating, door monitoring, greeting, etc.).
- Enforce house policies on late seating, photography, food/beverage, and audience behavior.
- Respond to patron needs and resolve seating or ticket discrepancies in coordination with Box Office and producing department.
- Serve as the designated F-03 Fire Guard for Juilliard venues, ensuring fire code compliance at all times. Provide leadership during emergency situations and direct safe evacuation procedures when required.
- Respond to emergencies, incidents, and performance disruptions (such as filming, phone use, or disorderly conduct) with professionalism, escalating when appropriate.
- Model professionalism and create a supportive learning environment for student ushers by providing clear expectations, real-time coaching, and constructive feedback.
- Complete required paperwork, including incident reports, event summaries, and feedback on student usher performance.
- Support Juilliard's values of accessibility, inclusivity, and hospitality in every interaction.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must obtain and maintain a valid F-03 Fire Guard certification within 30 days of hire.
- Experience in live performance, front of house, or audience services.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends.
- Experience supervising or mentoring students or early-career staff.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to adapt to last-minute changes.
- Must be able to manage emergencies and audience disruptions calmly and effectively.
- Experience with or ability to learn and develop fluency in Juilliard's suite of applications including UMA, Spektrix, and Cadence.
Preferred Background:
- Training in CPR, AED, and First Aid.
