You will serve as a Park Manager within the George Washington Memorial Parkway (GWMP), a cluster of park areas made up of 7,156 acres associated geographically and organizationally with the parkway and Potomac River. The parkway extends over 38 miles in Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia, including significant historic resources as well as a considerable portion of the Virginia shoreline of the Potomac River. The parkway has been the gateway to the Nation's Capital since 1932.

Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Management, planning, and direction of park operations. Perform advisory, coordination, and review functions in developing annual goals, objectives, and budgets/financial plans. Development and review of the basic operating programs, keeping in mind the public interest vs. National Park Service policy, resources and facilities. Represents the Superintendent and the National Park Service to other Federal and State government agencies, local municipalities, private and public groups, and organizations and interested individuals. Directly supervises and integrates the work of the divisions of Facility Maintenance; Visitor Services; and Resource Management; and the park's Safety Officer.

As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you may be required to serve a 1-year probationary period to evaluate your fitness and whether your continuation of employment advances the public interest. This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service. In determining if your employment advances the public interest, the agency will consider: your performance and conduct; the needs and interests of the agency; whether your continued employment would advance organizational goals of the agency or the Government; and whether your continued employment would advance the efficiency of the Federal service. Under applicable law, the employment of an individual serving a probationary or trial period automatically terminates when that period ends unless the agency affirmatively certifies, in writing, that the individual's employment should continue and that their appointment should be finalized. In the absence of agency action to affirmatively certify continued employment beyond the probationary or trial period, such appointments are terminated. Upon completion of your probationary period your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest. This is a supervisory position that may require completion of a supervisory probationary period.
