Part-Time Construction Materials Lab Tech-In-Training

Join Terracon Consultants, Inc. as a Part‑Time Laboratory Technician In Training in our Austin office, working in the soils and concrete laboratories. You will perform testing on construction materials—primarily concrete, soils, aggregates and asphalt—while communicating results to project teams, preparing daily reports, and maintaining a safe, organized work environment.

• Conduct laboratory tests on concrete, soils, aggregates, and asphalt according to project specifications.
• Prepare and calibrate testing equipment and ensure proper operation.
• Record test data accurately and enter results into digital reporting systems.
• Compile daily transmittal reports for the Terracon Project Manager.
• Communicate testing requirements and results with laboratory management, project managers, engineering technicians, and client or contractor representatives.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas and equipment.
• Follow all safety protocols and maintain compliance with OSHA and company standards.
• Assist senior technicians with sample preparation and equipment maintenance.
• Participate in on‑the‑job training and professional development activities.
• Support quality control procedures and document any deviations.

• High school diploma or GED; associate degree in engineering technology or related field preferred.
• Basic knowledge of concrete, soil, and aggregate testing methods.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to record data accurately.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and data entry software.
• Ability to follow safety guidelines and maintain a clean work environment.
• Willingness to learn and develop technical skills in a laboratory setting.
• Reliable transportation to the Austin office.
• Ability to work part‑time hours as scheduled, including occasional overtime.
• Team‑oriented attitude with a focus on collaboration and client service.
