Job Description

Montgomery College, Rockville Campus, has an immediate need for a part-time faculty member in the Workforce Development and Continuing Education (WDCE) Department for the Alternative Certification for Effective Teachers (ACET) program. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher who exhibits a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to our students, and demonstrates the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner. This position is currently eligible for telework 2 day(s) a week. This eligibility is subject to change based on the needs of the unit.

The selected candidate will provide instruction and support to aspiring educators enrolled in the program, fostering candidate growth in instructional practice, professional responsibilities, and classroom effectiveness.

Courses may be offered in person, online, or in hybrid formats. Work schedules vary and may include weekdays, evenings, and Saturdays based on program needs.

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Teach courses within the Alternative Certification Program in accordance with approved curriculum and program requirements.

  • Facilitate engaging learning experiences that support candidates’ development of effective instructional practices and professional competencies.

  • Provide timely, constructive feedback on assignments, assessments, and candidate performance.

  • Support candidates throughout the various phases of the program, which may include the Teaching Institute, Internship, and Residency.

  • Conduct classroom observations and provide coaching and mentoring to candidates as required by the program.

  • Maintain accurate records of candidate attendance, progress, and performance.

  • Submit all required course assessments and reports in accordance with program expectations.

  • Enter grades and maintain course information in the College’s learning management and grading systems.

  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development activities, and program-related initiatives as appropriate.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field.

  • Current or former Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) certified teacher or administrator.

  • Demonstrated expertise in instructional practice, curriculum, assessment, and classroom management.

  • Proficiency with computer technology, including email, Microsoft Office applications, and learning management systems.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Successful candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to promoting belonging, inclusion, and multicultural competence in an educational and work environment and must be willing to contribute to the Colleges strategic plan of inclusion.

  • Faculty members are expected to have access to a personal computer with virus protection that can connect to the internet outside of the work location (i.e., office, classroom, college campus) *. Montgomery College (MC) provides an MC e-mail account and access to the learning platform, password-protected faculty sections of the website, college listservs, and other faculty communications tools. *If you do not have access to a personal computer, please notify the department chair at the time of interview. Subject to available funds, the college may be able to provide temporary access to resources.

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without a sponsor.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching adult learners, pre-service teachers, or educator preparation courses.

  • Experience serving in a coaching, mentoring, or supervisory role.

  • Experience conducting classroom observations and providing instructional feedback.

  • Familiarity with Montgomery County Public Schools policies, practices, and professional standards.

For degrees earned outside of the U.S., a copy of your education equivalency, conducted by a nationally recognized evaluation service, must be included in your application.

Employees must live in Maryland or a state where the College has payroll reciprocity (DC, VA, PA, WV, DE, MA).
