Patient Flow Specialist

Location: IU Health Methodist Hospital
Coverage: IU Health Methodist Hospital and IU Health University Hospital
Schedule:
- Three 12‑hour shifts: 5:45 am to 5:45 pm including every 4th weekend,
- Hybrid 2 days a week in office 1 remote upon successful completion of training and must maintain performance standards
Top Responsibilities
- Assign new business to appropriate teams from overnight business
- Add assigned team orders in Cerner
- Calculate daily census
- Send overnight new business and team census to hospitalist teams and ICU teams (the night team does this for UH)
- Create admission orders daily for UH and on weekends for MH
- Triage consult/transfer calls throughout the day
- Send new business (i.e., ER admits, consults, post-ops, transfer of cares, direct admits, ICU upgrades and downgrades) to appropriate teams for MH, UH, and ICU
- Prepare UH, MH, and ICU paperwork for the next day
- Calculate ICU team censuses before evening changeover

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant or LPN program preferred.
- Previous experience in admitting, bed management, patient placement/throughput, or similar hospital operations preferred, including familiarity with demographic and payer‑related financial requirements.
- Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively with clinical and operational partners.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work professionally with physicians, hospital leadership, patients, and nursing staff at all levels.
