Pattern Maker
Job Summary
The Model Maker uses prints, drawings, specifications, or other means to create a model to a customer specification.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Constructing, assembling, or modifying parts, models, molds, and fixtures using manual and power tools.
- Expertise in selecting and working with various materials, including plastics, metals, and composites.
- Align, fit, and join parts using bolts and screws or by welding or gluing.
- Cut, shape, and form parts using lathes, power saws, snips, power brakes and shears, files, and mallets.
- Drill, countersink, and ream holes in parts and assemblies for bolts, screws, and other fasteners, using power tools.
- Grind, file, and sand parts to finished dimensions.
- Inspect and test products to verify conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments or circuit testers. Also includes Inspecting finished models for accuracy, troubleshooting, and testing functionality.
- Lay out and mark reference points and dimensions on materials, using measuring instruments and drawing or scribing tools.
