A growing business services organization is expanding a specialized payroll tax team and is seeking experienced professionals who know how to investigate complicated tax issues and bring them through resolution. This remote position is well suited for an experienced professional who can independently manage a variety of payroll tax responsibilities while ensuring accuracy, timely resolution, and effective communication. You will join a fast-paced operation where technical judgment, accuracy, and the ability to independently solve problems will have an immediate impact.

This Role Offers:

  • Competitive hourly compensation rate.
  • Company-provided computer equipment for selected employees.
  • An opportunity to focus on specialized payroll tax work across numerous U.S. jurisdictions.
  • A structured environment designed for professionals who thrive on accuracy, problem solving, and measurable results.

  • Candidates must be available for the scheduled equipment and technology check on Sept 17, 2026, and the Sept 21, 2026, training start.

  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

Focus:

  • Own a fast-moving queue of payroll tax cases spanning federal, state, and local jurisdictions, keeping filings, payments, and corrections accurate and on schedule.
  • Investigate agency notices from initial review through resolution, including researching account history, determining root cause, preparing responses, and tracking follow-up.
  • Manage necessary payroll tax updates and filing adjustments while maintaining accurate and complete documentation.
  • Reconcile payroll and tax information to identify discrepancies, determine tax impact, and implement the appropriate correction.
  • Handle challenging or unusual tax matters with independent judgment, escalating only when the issue truly requires additional expertise.
  • Maintain organized case documentation that gives internal partners a clear record of actions, decisions, agency communication, and outcomes.
  • Partner with payroll, operations, clients, and taxing authorities to move open issues toward timely resolution.
  • Manage competing priorities and deadlines while maintaining consistent quality, efficiency, and responsiveness in a remote environment.

Skill Set:

  • Bring at least two years of hands-on experience processing high-volume U.S. payroll taxes across multiple states.

  • Have prepared or processed amended payroll tax filings such as Form 941-X, W-2c, and state-level corrections.
  • Demonstrate the ability to research complicated payroll tax questions, reconcile data, correct errors, and respond to taxing agencies with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrate strong organization and communication while effectively handling multiple responsibilities and time-sensitive priorities in a remote environment.
  • Payroll certification such as FPC or CPP is helpful but not required.
  • Experience mentoring colleagues, improving payroll tax processes, or supporting complex escalations is a plus.
