Payroll Technician
Summary
Receives, prepares, reviews, and coordinates a variety of payroll and personnel input forms. Enters required data into payroll/personnel information system.
Essential Functions
- Coordinate the payroll process which includes balancing, adjusting, and reversing payroll documents;
- Provide documentation for IRS levies, child support payments, bankruptcy notices, and other reports. Generate tax documents, contribution reports and
other payroll reports; - Assist employees in making payroll deduction changes;
- Enter data into payroll/personnel system using a computer;
- Review edit reports and enter corrections as necessary;
- Submit requests through report generator program to prepare and run special reports. Distribute payroll reports to departments;
- Perform a variety of clerical duties including payroll recordkeeping and filing;
- Perform related duties as directed.
Human Resources:- Ensures accurate and timely processing of employee wage and personnel information into the Human Resources database;
- Consistently collects codes and enters various employee data into Human Resources while adhering to policies and procedures;
- Effectively communicates with HR and Payroll to ensure correct and timely entry of all data; perform periodic auditing for accuracy; and make data corrections when necessary;
- Maintains various types of employee files, to include create new employee files and termination files;
- Maintain records of budget status;
- Perform related duties as directed.
Qualifications
Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent with an additional three to six years of responsible clerical or financial recordkeeping experience; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Basic principles and practices for payroll processing.
- Operate a computer terminal for data input;
- Understand and apply a variety of policies and procedures related to payroll processing;
- Accurately complete and enter payroll documents;
- Work effectively with employees and supervisors;
- Communicate effectively with others.
Physical Requirements- Frequently lift and carry up to 10 pounds;
- Occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds;
- Stand and walk during the shift;
- Occasionally bend and kneel during the shift;
- Place arms above, at or below shoulder height.
