PCB Design Engineer

Discussion

Summary

Designs and develops complex multi-layer PCBs for high-speed digital, analog, and mixed-signal systems at a rocket company — handling placement, routing, stack-up planning, DRC/ERC validation, Gerber release, and board bring-up using tools like Cadence Allegro, OrCAD, or Altium Designer.

ABOUT

Agnikul Cosmos is a company incubated at IIT Madras and we build rockets that can take satellites up to 500 kg to Lower Earth Orbit (LEO). In May 2024, we successfully completed our maiden launch from our own launchpad (India's first private launchpad). The launch has proven all the new technologies developed by Agnikul and also earned recognition from Honourable Prime Minister of India.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design and develop complex multi-layer PCBs for high-speed digital, analog, and mixed-signal electronic systems.
  • Perform PCB placement, routing, layout optimization, and constraint management using tools such as Cadence Allegro, OrCAD, Altium Designer, or similar EDA platforms.
  • Work on high-speed interfaces and protocols such as DDR, PCIe, USB, Ethernet, SPI, I2C, LVDS, MIPI, SD Card, or similar interfaces.
  • Support complete PCB design lifecycle including library creation, schematic coordination, footprint creation, routing, DRC/ERC validation, Gerber generation, and fabrication release.
  • Optimize layouts for signal integrity, power integrity, impedance control, EMI/EMC, thermal considerations, and manufacturability.
  • Perform differential pair routing, length matching, stack-up planning, and high pin-count BGA fanout/routing.
  • Collaborate with hardware, mechanical, thermal, manufacturing, and assembly teams during design and review phases.
  • Participate in board bring-up, debugging, validation, and design review activities.
  • Work independently on PCB design tasks and support multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics / ECE / EEE or related engineering discipline.
  • 1–4 years of experience in PCB design and layout engineering.
  • Hands-on experience in at least one professional PCB design tool such as Cadence Allegro, OrCAD, Altium Designer, or similar.
  • Understanding of high-speed PCB design concepts and multi-layer board development.
  • Familiarity with PCB manufacturing processes, DRC/ERC checks, Gerber generation, and fabrication requirements.
  • Exposure to high-speed interfaces such as DDR, USB, Ethernet, SPI, I2C, PCIe, LVDS, or similar protocols.
