People Services Specialist - Abilities and Claims Management (18-month Term)

POSITION SUMMARY
This is an 18-month term position starting in August 2026.
The People Services Specialist is a key member of the People & Culture team, providing HR support across the organization with a focus on ability and claims management, including the coordination of occupational and non-occupational accident/injuries and all aspects of the claims process and return to work programs. This role coordinates health issues related to early and safe return to work programs and is responsible for continually improving New Flyer's claims management performance through the development and implementation of prevention-focused programs.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Lead the administration, coordination, tracking, and documentation of occupational and non-occupational illness and injury with providers including WCB, STD, LTD and MPI claims
- Liaise with the medical community and external providers to support claim management and coordinate return-to-work plans
- Provide guidance regarding disability management issues and employee claims status
- Work closely with employees and leaders to support and facilitate successful return-to-work programs and provide training on disability and claims management processes
- Coordinate programs and services related to ability, health, and wellness education, using trends to inform focus areas
- Promote positive employee relations in support and achievement of attendance and claims management programs and strategies
- Provide advice and guidance in areas of employee and labor relations, harassment/conflict, and progressive discipline issues
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources, or a related field, with certification in Return to Work Coordination, Disability Management, or equivalent experience
- 2-3 years of HR experience with a focus on employee and labour relations, disability case management and return to work programs.
- Strong working knowledge of HR legislation, employment standards, ability management principles, Occupational Health and Safety, and Worker's Compensation Legislation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, OneNote, and Teams.
- Ability to stay organized in a high-volume environment and shift priorities quickly as needed.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders.
