Location: Westwood, CA. This is a highly collaborative litigation role with regular in-office and courtroom presence. After the first 30 days, attorneys may work from home up to two days per week as the trial and court schedule permits.

Note: Candidates must be active members of the California Bar in good standing and have 3+ years of directly relevant personal injury litigation experience. Strong deposition, motion practice, negotiation, and courtroom experience is important. Jury trial, first-chair, and second-chair experience is highly preferred.

Job Description

  • Manage personal injury litigation matters from active litigation through settlement, trial, or verdict.
  • Handle cases involving automobile accidents, premises liability, workplace injuries, and other serious personal injury claims.
  • Develop litigation and trial strategy based on liability, damages, witnesses, experts, and the legal issues involved in each case.
  • Conduct and defend depositions involving plaintiffs, defendants, experts, corporate representatives, and key fact witnesses.
  • Draft pleadings, discovery, settlement demands, dispositive motions, motions in limine, pre-trial filings, and post-trial motions.
  • Prepare witnesses, exhibits, examinations, arguments, and case themes for jury and bench trials.
  • Serve as first chair or second chair in trials based on experience and case needs.
  • Represent clients at hearings, mediations, settlement conferences, negotiations, and courtroom proceedings.
  • Negotiate strategically with insurance carriers and opposing counsel while preparing cases to proceed to trial when necessary.
  • Conduct legal research and analyze California personal injury law, civil procedure, damages, liens, and litigation issues.
  • Work closely with experts, witnesses, clients, and internal litigation teams throughout each matter.
  • Manage litigation deadlines, case files, discovery obligations, and procedural requirements.
  • Collaborate with experienced trial attorneys on complex case strategy and courtroom preparation.
  • Mentor junior attorneys and litigation team members as experience permits.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
  • Active California Bar membership in good standing.
  • 3+ years of personal injury litigation experience.
  • Plaintiff-side personal injury litigation experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience taking and defending depositions.
  • Experience handling substantive motion practice.
  • Strong understanding of California personal injury law and civil procedure.
  • Knowledge of damages, liens, discovery, case valuation, and litigation strategy.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills.
  • Strong negotiation, oral advocacy, and client communication skills.
  • Ability to independently manage litigation matters and deadlines.
  • Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, high-accountability litigation environment.
  • Jury trial experience strongly preferred.
  • First-chair or second-chair trial experience strongly preferred.
  • Lemon law or consumer protection litigation experience is a plus.
  • Federal court experience or admission is a plus.
