Personal Support Worker

The opportunity:
Known internally as Support Service Attendant, we have 1 part time opportunity in our Oshawa Supportive Housing Program- Durham Region.

  • Flexible schedule: Includes mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Starting wage: $20.87 per hour. This compensation is inclusive of a $3.00 per hour wage enhancement from the Ontario government for hours spent directly supporting clients. The wage enhancement does not apply to training and paid leave.
  • Hours: Various hours per week

Responsibilities:

  • Assist service users/clients in their own homes with non-medical activities of daily living in accordance with individual service plans and with March of Dimes Canada policies and procedures:

o Personal care
o Lifts and Transfers
o Rising/retiring
o Bowel and bladder procedures
o Meal preparation and feeding
o Range of motion exercises
o Other light housekeeping duties

  • Perform duties in a professional manner, which respects the dignity and right to privacy and maintains consumer and staff health and safety.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Reliable transportation required
  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain
  • Experience working with individuals with physical disabilities, older adults, or as an informal caregiver considered an asset but not required
  • Good interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of and abilities in transferring, lifting, bowel and bladder routines and other attendant care duties
  • Physical Demands Self Analysis Required upon hire
  • Ability to work flexible and regularly scheduled hours
