As a Personnel Security Specialist, you will adjudicate agency personnel background investigations to determine fitness, suitability, and/or national security eligibility and conduct liaison activities with federal agencies concerning the Personnel Security Program.

The responsibilities described are for the full performance level. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope performed with less independence, and limited complexity.

Independently review background investigations and make decisions regarding suitability for federal employment, fitness for performance under contracts with the federal government, or eligibility for a security clearance.

Interpret and apply suitability factors and security adjudicative guidelines when making adjudicative decisions or adverse action recommendations for suitability, fitness, and security clearance eligibility.

Review background investigations/documents to ensure all required information is provided and request missing information when needed. Ensure all required information is present in background investigations for the appropriate adjudicative decision.

Writes letters of interrogatories, case summaries, eligibility notifications, and notices of adverse actions. Contact or issue written correspondence with individuals, outside entities or other government agencies for additional information.

Manages workflow to ensure timely processing of cases to ensure compliance with government performance and accountability requirements. Keeps team lead or management abreast of recurring problems or systemic deficiencies.

Residency Requirement: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. This residency requirement states that candidates must have, for three of the last five years immediately prior to applying for this position; (1) resided in the United States; OR (2) worked for the United States Government as an employee overseas in a Federal or Military capacity, OR (3) been a dependent of a U.S. Federal or Military employee serving overseas. Probationary Period: You may be required to serve a probationary period of 1 year.
