Job Summary:

Assist physical therapists in providing physical therapy treatments and procedures.

May assist in developing treatment plans, documenting treatment progress, and modifying specific treatments per patient status and within the scope of treatment plans established by a physical therapist.

Essential Functions:

• Administers active and passive manual therapeutic exercises, therapeutic massage, and heat, light, sound, water, and electrical modality treatments such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, ultraviolet, infrared, and hot and cold packs to ensure positive patient outcomes.
• Instructs, motivates, and assists patients in learning and improving functional activities.
• Observes patients during treatments and compiles and evaluates data on patient responses to treatments and progress, and reports findings to the physical therapist.
• Fits patients with orthopedic braces, prostheses, and supportive devices such as crutches, canes, walkers, and wheelchairs and then routinely and, as needed, adjusts and trains patients in their use and care.
• Confers with members of physical therapy staff and other health team members, individually and in conferences, to exchange, discuss, and evaluate patient information for planning, modifying, and coordinating treatment programs.
