GENERAL SUMMARY:
As a Physician Advisor for our Internal Physician Advisor Service (IPAS), you will play a vital role in optimizing hospital operations while maintaining the highest standards of patient care. Working collaboratively with medical staff leadership, resident physicians, case management, social services, and utilization management teams, you will develop and implement strategies that enhance resource efficiency across our health system.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Partner with medical staff leadership and physicians to optimize the use of hospital services and ensure appropriate levels of care for all patients
- Support the Revenue Cycle by serving as a liaison between Revenue Cycle operations and medical staff members, facilitating clear communication and collaboration across the system
- Review clinical documentation and support coding improvements to enhance compliance and accuracy
- Monitor the appropriate use of diagnostic and therapeutic modalities to ensure quality care and resource stewardship
- Collaborate with case management and social services to ensure patients receive care at the most appropriate level of care setting
- Contribute to quality improvement and patient safety initiatives across the organization
- Build strong relationships with medical staff and hospital leadership to foster buy-in and collaboration on key initiatives
- Demonstrate proficiency with electronic medical records systems (EPIC preferred) and utilization management tools (MCG/InterQual preferred)
- Report directly to the Medical Director of the Internal Physician Advisor Service (IPAS)
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Doctoral degree in Medicine (M.D. or D.O.)
- Minimum five (5) years of clinical practice experience
- Unrestricted medical license in the State of Michigan
- Board Certification
- Membership eligibility with the Henry Ford Medical Staff
- Strong computer skills and proficiency with electronic medical records systems
- Knowledge of utilization management, quality improvement, and patient safety principles
- Working knowledge of case management operations and administrative standards
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Board Certification by the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians, Inc. (ABQAURP) or the American College of Physician Advisors (ACPA-C)
- Experience with EPIC electronic medical records system
- Familiarity with MCG/InterQual placement status criteria
