PHYSICIAN (AEROSPACE MEDICINE)

THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a PHYSICIAN (AEROSPACE MEDICINE), Position Description Number T6001000 and is part of the WY 153rd Medical Group, Wyoming National Guard. This is a Title 5 Excepted Service position. Military affiliation is not required.

This position serves as the primary medical liaison between flight crews, unit leadership, and healthcare practitioners, providing expert aerospace medicine consultation. The incumbent leverages residency training and operational expertise to plan, oversee, and execute Air National Guard (ANG) aviation medicine programs in strict alignment with USAF and ANG medical aviation regulations, policies, requirements and standards, skills and practices to service pilots and navigators in Air National Guard Flying Units. Serves as a liaison between pilots, flight crews, physicians, officers, and other medical practitioners to provide expert consultation to and on behalf of patients. Key duties include managing installation-wide aerospace medicine, determining operational flight status disposition, and providing decisive clinical judgment in medical case management to ensure the health, safety, and mission-readiness of all assigned personnel.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS: Must obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance. Subject to provisions of the DoD Priority Placement Program. Employees are paid through Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer (DD/EFT). May be required to successfully complete a two-year trial period. Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. This position is within the professional series IAW 5 USC §3319, and compensably disabled preference eligibles (CPS/CP) are not automatically placed at the top of the Certificate of Eligibles (5 USC §3313). Eligibles will be listed in score order, including veterans' preference points. Recruitment/Relocation Incentive MAY BE authorized for highly qualified candidates, if eligible. Subject to funding and approval. Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs are not authorized, based on the determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest. 1. Board-certified (Highest Qualified) in a Primary Care Specialty (Aerospace Medicine, Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics, Pediatrics, or Emergency Medicine). 2. Physicians License required. 3. Must maintain current state licensure, Basic Life Support (BLS), and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or other named specialties. 4. Must be flight surgeon qualified or able to obtain the necessary qualifications within 12 months of appointment. 5. Subject to Random Drug Testing and has a mandatory seasonal vaccination requirement and annual influenza vaccinations. 6. Must possess knowledge of DoDI 6130.03, Medical standards for Appointment, Enlistment, or Induction into the Military services. 7. Inclement Weather position. May be required to report for or remain on duty during inclement weather. 8. Irregular duty hours and on-call service may be required to support operational missions, or contingencies outside of the normal duty day. 9. May be required to participate in contingency readiness exercises, major accident response exercises, and investigations, and perform duties during Nat'l Guard drill periods and annual training. 10. Required to file OGE Form 450, Confidential Statement of Affiliations and Financial Interests. 11. Designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration.
