Physician - Colorectal Surgery
The VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System (VANWIHCS) is seeking one Full-Time Colorectal Surgeon to join our Surgical Service Department. This is an excellent opportunity to serve our nation's veterans while working in a dynamic and supportive environment.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting The Colorectal Surgeon is expected to independently evaluate, diagnose, treat, and manage patients requiring surgical care within the scope of granted privileges. Clinical responsibilities include but are not limited to: - Evaluating patients in the outpatient, inpatient, emergency, and perioperative settings. - Performing operative and bedside procedures within granted privileges. - Providing perioperative management and follow-up care. - Determining surgical indications and appropriate treatment plans. - Prescribing preoperative and postoperative treatments and medications. - Coordinating multidisciplinary patient care. - Supervising and collaborating with residents, APPs, nursing staff, and ancillary personnel. - Maintaining timely, accurate, and complete medical record documentation within CPRS/Cerner and in accordance with VHA policy. - Participating in surgical call coverage as assigned. - Practicing within approved privileges at all times unless necessitated by emergency circumstances. Work Schedule: Monday -Friday 0800-1600. Additional information will be provided during interview process. This position is not eligible for telework. Typical work hours will be determined based on clinic work-load to accommodate both medical and surgical needs.
