Physician - Emotional Support Animal Assessor (Colorado)

Company Description

Pettable was founded by pet lovers who believe our animals are family. We help people stay together with the pets that support their mental health - especially when it comes to housing - by connecting them with licensed clinicians who can assess their need for an emotional support animal and, where clinically appropriate, provide an ESA letter.

We're an established platform serving tens of thousands of clients a year, backed by a support team that handles scheduling, billing, and client communication so you can focus on care.

Position Description

We are looking for Colorado-licensed physicians (MDs or DOs) to join our team and help make our vision a reality. We are seeking ethical, competent, and empathetic providers who can connect with clients and assess their need for an emotional support animal via virtual consultations. You’ll bring sound, independent clinical judgment to every evaluation and help clients navigate the process with warmth and professionalism while maintaining the spirit of mutual respect and collaboration that helps us succeed as a team. Above all, you must share our passion for mental wellness and pets, and embody our mission to improve their health and happiness on a large scale.

  • Conduct virtual ESA evaluations, giving each client your full attention and a thorough, unhurried evaluation.
  • Exercise independent clinical judgment - issuing a letter when criteria are met, and respectfully declining when they aren't.
  • Document each assessment clearly and consistently, and complete letters accurately and on time.
  • Prescribe and write emotional support animal letters for approved clients within 2 business days of consultation.
  • Treat every client with dignity and respect, regardless of background, disability, or beliefs.
  • Collaborate with Pettable team and clients on any follow-up support or documentation the client may need.

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD)
  • Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
  • Must be licensed in the state of Colorado
Other requirements:
  • Experience with prescribing emotional support animal letters and associated regulations is preferred but not required. We'll train the right candidate!
  • Experience with phone and/or virtual consultations
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Positive attitude
  • Enjoy technology and capable of troubleshooting computer or connectivity issues.
Time Commitment

This is a 1099 contractor role with flexible, self-directed hours.

Pettable operates as a marketplace: clients book directly with providers based on availability and fit, so your volume reflects overall client demand and the availability you open. Providers who offer near-term and same-day availability tend to see the most client volume—clients are seeking prompt support, and open near-term slots are what convert. We can't guarantee a set number of clients, but demand across our network is strong and steady.

Compensation

$90 - $120 per hour
Hourly rate potential is based on the # of consults performed. You will be compensated $30/consult, and consults typically take ~15-20 minutes.

Location

This is a US-based, remote position; however, you must hold a valid Colorado license to practice medicine.
