VA Black Hills Health Care System is seeking a General Surgeon aligned with the Surgery/Specialty Care Service in inpatient and outpatient settings at the Black Hills VA Medical Center.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Diagnose and treats all common general surgical conditions, including malignancies of the gastrointestinal tract (stomach, small and large intestine), gallbladder, skin and soft tissue. Be proficient in the placement of central venous and arterial catheters. Responsible for seeing patients in consultation in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Provides care of the Veterans' medical needs by performing examination, surgical consultation, and developing treatment and follow-up plans. Provides ongoing patient and family education throughout the course of treatment. Adheres to policies and procedures regarding the completion of all required orders, operation/procedure notes/reports, discharge summaries, progress notes, clinical reminders, all other required medical documentation, and performance measures in a timely fashion. Ensures the most effective delivery of care while meeting and exceeding compliance, Joint Commission, and VA Central Office performance measure standards. Mentors, trains and provides supervision for mid-levels in all aspects of their duties as required. Performs other directly related duties as required. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm. The candidate will be expected to participate in call schedule after hours and at least one weekend a month and will need to possess the ability to respond promptly in emergent situations.
