PHYSICIAN (NEPHROLOGY)
Summary
Serve as a nephrology specialist at Tripler Army Medical Center, providing inpatient and outpatient care, dialysis management, and complex diagnostic evaluations for renal patients.
About the Position: This position is with Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) in the Directorate of Medicine in Honolulu, Hawaii. This is an open continuous announcement. We accept applications on an ongoing basis; qualified applicants will be considered as vacancies become available. Serve as a Board Eligible or Board Certified specialist in the field of Internal Medicine/Nephrology.
Provide inpatient and outpatient nephrology consultation services.
Perform a wide range of duties of management of acute and chronic dialysis, therapeutic plasma exchanges, management of complex metabolic problems, diagnoses and treatments of complex pathologic physiologies.
Perform procedures such as renal biopsies, placement of central venous access for acute hemodialysis, urine microscopies, supervision of dialysis treatments and therapeutic plasma exchanges treatments, etc.
Refer patients to other specialty clinics, as required, for further evaluation either on outpatient or inpatient basis to determine the best diagnosis and treatment.
Order and interpret laboratory tests and x-rays, necessary to complete medical evaluations of cases, to include: hematology, chemistry, serology, histology, electrocardiogram and radiologic studies.
Provide and orchestrate all means of pre-operative, operative, and post-operative care referred, as well as provide a means of continuous care during his/her absence.
Formulate and conduct diagnostic evaluations for renal failure patients, with or without concurrent hepatic insufficiency, pancreas insufficiency, or patients with any combination of morbidity.
Serve as the subject matter expert and consultant, with regards to the specialized field of the nephrology to local and regional military treatment facility healthcare providers and operations.
Provide advice and consultation with other expert physicians on the diagnoses and treatment of patients, especially in the area of Internal Medicine/Nephrology, often with use of telemedicine.
Participate in the medical and allied health education programs.
Serve as attending staff physician on the inpatient medicine ward service.
Manage and coordinate the entire inpatient episode of care, and works cooperatively with the inpatient Primary Care Managers, Surgeons, and Specialty Consultants.
Responsible for over-site of medical care given by midlevel providers (Physician’s Assistants or Nurse Practitioners) working on the Inpatient Medicine Service.
