Physician-Primary Care Fee Basis
Note: The utilization of Fee Basis appointments is centered on the service needs rather than a specified tour of duty. The Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center is seeking a Fee Basis Physician in Primary Care. The candidate will be responsible for conducting comprehensive patient histories, examinations, diagnoses, and treatments of medical condition
This is an open continuous announcement that will remain open until filled. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis. Eligible applicants will be referred each week for consideration until a selection is made. Duties include but not limited to the following; Because short-notice; ad hoc, fee-basis work is as-needed at times, the ideal physician must be adaptable and ready to perform clinical duties that may arise on short notice. Provide comprehensive primary care to assigned or walk-in Veterans in accordance with PACT principles. Diagnose and treat acute and chronic medical conditions for adult and geriatric patients. Perform and document histories, physical examinations, and assessments. Order and interpret appropriate laboratory and diagnostic studies. Prescribe medications and treatments as appropriate. Participate in daily team huddles and care planning when present acting as a member of the Patient Aligned Care Team as needed. Communicate effectively with team members about patient status and care plans. Respond to clinical duties as scheduled or requested, which may include coverage for absences, overflow, or urgent/emergent needs. Provide timely assessment and intervention for urgent walk-in or telehealth patients during scheduled shifts. Completes encounters and responds to view alerts in a timely manner, ensuring accurate and prompt documentation in the electronic medical record in accordance to VHA policy. Complete all required clinical and administrative documentation in accordance with VHA policy. Initiate necessary referrals to specialty care, social work, mental health, in-network, or community resources as needed. Ensure test results and consults are addressed and communicated to patients in a timely manner based on clinical indication and VHA policy. Adhere to VA, federal, and state regulations and policies, including those regarding privacy, infection control, and mandatory reporting. Maintain current licensure and complete required training (e.g., BLS/ACLS, TMS modules). Educate patients and family members regarding disease processes, medications, and health maintenance as needed. Other Duties as Assigned. Pay: Based on approved pay rates per task or service. Fee basis annual salary limitation is $200,000 in a calendar year. Rates will be determined based on Medicare fee schedule. Rates can range from $55.00 per procedure to $200.00 per procedure. Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory. Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided. Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting. Work Schedule: There is no set work schedule. Services are rendered as needed and agreed with the facility.
U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Must pass pre-placement evaluation. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
