The Section of Pulmonary, Sleep, and Critical Care within the Specialty Care Service at Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center in Albuquerque, NM, is seeking an interventional pulmonologist and intensivist. This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until September 30, 2026. Applicants will be accepted on an ongoing basis and qualified candidates will be considered as vacancies become available.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting Responsibilities will include outpatient and inpatient pulmonary/thoracic consultative care encompassing general Pulmonary, as well as specialized diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, such as rigid bronchoscopy with stent placement for malignant and benign respiratory diseases, multimodality endobronchial therapy with laser, electrocautery and/or cryotherapy, placement of endobronchial valves for malignant and benign lung diseases; advanced bronchoscopy with diagnosis and staging of lung cancer including, but not limited to endobronchial ultrasound; medical thoracoscopy for diagnosis and management of malignant or benign pleural diseases such as early management of empyema, and placement of Pleurx catheter for fluid drainage. The incumbent will be responsible for expanding/managing the lung nodule/lesion clinic, participate and lead the weekly Multi-disciplinary Thoracic conferences, facilitate related educational/clinical activities, supervise trainees and advance practice providers, and play an integral role in the lung cancer screening program. The incumbent will also participate in shared ICU coverage and night/weekend calls. Other duties as assigned. Desired candidates should be board certified or board eligible in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, with advance training and completion of an accredited Interventional Pulmonology fellowship or equivalent. The successful applicant will join a VA-based faculty, and is expected to be qualified for a faculty position at the University of New Mexico. Faculty eligibility, track and rank will be determined based on qualifications, publication record, and experience. Work Schedule: 8:00am - 4:30pm Monday - Friday
