Physician (Regular Ft) - Chief, Dermatology

The VA St. Louis Health Care System is recruiting for Full-time Chief of Dermatology located within Specialty Care Service at our John Cochran Division. The Chief of Dermatology provides administrative leadership, advanced clinical practice, consultation, and management of Veterans with dermatologic disease in the outpatient clinic setting. The position emphasizes quality, timeliness, and the advancement of the VA mission.

The incumbent provides the full range of Dermatology physician services and is responsible for oversight of all dermatologic care delivered within the service, including care rendered by residents, and support staff. This is a (100%) full-time position involving the provision of Dermatology clinical care and service-level administrative leadership. These services will be rendered in a thoughtful and resource-effective manner consistent with VA policies and the highest standards of medical care. Such activities include, but are not limited to: diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic skin conditions; full-scope dermatology procedures including biopsies, MOHS surgery, cryotherapy, electrodesiccation and curettage (ED&C), intralesional injections, excisions, and dermoscopy; oversight of phototherapy services; inpatient consult services; patient and family education; consulting and collaborating with other health care providers; prescribing medications and adjunctive modalities; appropriate referrals to other specialties; care coordination between service lines; and communication with patients and/or their appropriate surrogates regarding findings and management plans. In addition to clinical duties, the Chief of Dermatology exercises supervisory and administrative authority over the Dermatology Service, including management of staff, budget, scheduling, quality metrics, and accreditation compliance. The incumbent must demonstrate strong leadership, advanced clinical and assessment skills, and the ability to function independently in executive decision-making and problem solving. The Chief works in close collaboration with the Medicine Service Line Chief, affiliate leadership, staff physicians, dermatology nursing staff, and dermatology residents.
