The Planner Buyer is responsible for coordinating products throughout the entire production cycle. This role develops production and supply plans based on demand forecasts, material availability, and manufacturing capacity. The Planner Buyer identifies and maintains appropriate planning parameters within ERP systems to optimize subassembly production and raw material supply.

This position evaluates and analyzes data related to processes and systems, resolves issues involving inventory, production schedules, or material shortages, and recommends countermeasures to prevent recurring problems. The Planner Buyer also ensures an effective balance between suppliers and internal and external customers, aligning supply with demand for both materials and finished goods.

Responsibilities

As a Planner Buyer on the Materials team, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Communicate and coordinate with factory teams to ensure a continuous supply of products while meeting quality and delivery standards.
  • Resolve vendor-related line-stopping issues in a timely manner.
  • Drive Lean initiatives by implementing consignment, Kanban, just-in-time (JIT), postponement, and other materials strategies to reduce inventory while maintaining availability.
  • Develop action plans and countermeasures with schedulers, development, and factory teams to support effective inventory control.
  • Partner closely with the Strategic Sourcing team to support low-cost regional sourcing, supplier assessment, and supplier management.
  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement efforts using appropriate Fortive Business System (FBS) tools.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with the New Product Introduction (NPI) team to ensure successful product launches from design through production.
  • Coordinate and, when needed, support the integration of new production cells across locations.
  • Establish and maintain standard work processes and ensure consistent training within the Materials team.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in supply chain or similar

• Proven track record in tackling complex problems related to inventory control

• Must be proficient in Excel

• Self-starter who seeks out ways to improve processes before being asked

• Ability to be effective in a fast-paced, metric-driven environment

• 1-4 years of progressive experience in planning, purchasing, and inventory control within a lean manufacturing environment.

• Good time management and organizational skills

  • The ability to prioritize and balance multiple projects at once.
