Blood Donor Recruitment Specialist
Description
Responsibilities
Build relationships. Create opportunities. Make a lifesaving impact.
Every day, patients rely on blood donations to support cancer treatments, recover from serious injuries and receive lifesaving medical care. Ensuring a reliable supply of these vital blood products takes more than awareness. It takes proactive recruitment, meaningful engagement and strong relationships with the people who make it all possible: our donors.
Community Blood Center is looking for a motivated, personable and data/results-driven professional to help grow participation in specialized blood donation programs, with a particular focus on special donations, including platelet donations.
As a Blood Donor Recruitment Specialist, you'll identify opportunities to engage existing blood donors, introduce them to the importance of other ways of donating and encourage them to become regular participants. You'll develop targeted outreach strategies, build relationships with prospective and existing donors, and work closely with teams across the organization to turn recruitment opportunities into lasting donor relationships.
This is a dynamic, people-focused role that combines sales, relationship management and community engagement. You'll spend time in our donor centers and at mobile blood drives, connecting directly with donors and partnering with internal teams to drive recruitment efforts. You'll also use performance insights to understand what's working, identify new opportunities and continually improve results.
We're looking for someone who is confident initiating conversations, naturally builds trust, knows how to influence decisions and is motivated by achieving goals. If you enjoy developing relationships, creating opportunities and seeing the tangible results of your efforts, this is an opportunity to put those skills to work for a meaningful cause.
What you'll do
- Drive donor recruitment and conversion: Identify eligible existing blood donors and engage them through personalized conversations and targeted outreach, encouraging them to explore specialized donation opportunities.
- Build high-value relationships: Develop meaningful connections with prospective and existing donors, understand their interests and motivations, and encourage ongoing participation through consistent engagement and follow-up.
- Be present in the field: Regularly visit donor centers and mobile blood drives to connect with donors, identify recruitment opportunities and work alongside local teams to support recruitment goals.
- Influence and collaborate: Build strong partnerships with Collections leadership, donor center teams and Donor Marketing to identify opportunities, coordinate recruitment efforts and achieve shared goals.
- Develop targeted outreach: Use donor information/data alongside recruitment insights to identify the right audiences, personalize engagement and improve conversion into specialized donation programs.
- Strengthen donor retention: Follow up with prospective and first-time donors, gather feedback, address questions and identify opportunities to encourage repeat, sustained participation.
- Monitor performance and identify opportunities: Track recruitment activity, evaluate results, recognize trends and recommend ways to improve recruitment, conversion and retention.
- Support marketing and promotional initiatives: Partner with Donor Marketing to develop and implement campaigns and promotional activities that increase awareness and participation.
- Share knowledge and best practices: Become a trusted resource on specialized donation programs, helping educate colleagues and share effective recruitment and engagement approaches.
This role works across our corporate office, donor centers and mobile blood drives, with regular local travel throughout the Kansas City area.
What we're looking for
We're looking for someone who combines a strong sales mindset with excellent relationship-building and communication skills. You know how to recognize an opportunity, build trust and motivate people to take action. You are equally comfortable engaging directly with donors and building relationships with colleagues and leaders across the organization.
Why this role matters
Platelets are critical for cancer patients, surgical procedures, and emergency care. Because platelets have a very short shelf life, maintaining a reliable network of dedicated donors is vital for hospital supplies. In this role, you will expand this donor base by raising awareness, building strong relationships, and encouraging recurring donations.
Your ability to engage others with people and turn interest into action will have a direct impact on the availability of lifesaving blood products.
