Platform Automation Engineer
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Platform Automation Engineer based in India.
This is a full-time remote opportunity focused on designing, building, and evolving enterprise private cloud platforms. You will work hands-on with OpenShift and Kubernetes to create scalable, resilient, and automated platform capabilities across on-premises and hybrid environments. The role combines platform engineering with software development, emphasizing code-first automation rather than manual operational processes. You will build APIs, Kubernetes Operators, GitOps workflows, and self-service capabilities that improve the developer experience and accelerate platform adoption. Strong collaboration with architects, application teams, and platform stakeholders will be essential to shaping reliable and efficient cloud-native services. The position offers the opportunity to work across infrastructure automation, observability, CI/CD, distributed systems, and modern software engineering practices. This role is well suited to an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex infrastructure challenges through automation and scalable engineering solutions.
Accountabilities:
- Platform Engineering: Design, build, maintain, deploy, upgrade, and automate enterprise OpenShift and Kubernetes platforms across on-premises and hybrid environments.
- Infrastructure Automation: Develop code-driven infrastructure automation solutions using Go, Python, Ansible, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices to improve platform efficiency and consistency.
- Platform Development: Build and maintain Kubernetes Operators, APIs, integrations, and self-service platform capabilities that enable application teams to consume infrastructure more efficiently.
- GitOps & CI/CD: Implement and manage GitOps deployment workflows using tools such as Argo CD and Tekton, while supporting broader CI/CD practices through platforms such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or equivalent technologies.
- System Integrations: Develop API-based integrations between OpenShift and enterprise platforms, using automation frameworks and software engineering principles to create reliable and maintainable solutions.
- Reliability & Resilience: Improve platform reliability, scalability, and resilience by implementing automated monitoring, alerting, recovery, and operational mechanisms.
- Observability: Build and maintain observability capabilities using technologies such as Dynatrace, Prometheus, Grafana, and centralized logging platforms to improve platform visibility and operational performance.
- Containerized & Virtualized Workloads: Support containerized and virtualized workloads running on OpenShift, including environments leveraging OpenShift Virtualization.
- Developer Experience: Collaborate with architects, application teams, and platform stakeholders to improve self-service capabilities, platform usability, adoption, and the overall developer experience.
- Engineering Standards: Contribute to engineering standards, code quality, automation best practices, technical documentation, and mentoring initiatives across the platform engineering function.
- Professional Experience: 6–10 years of experience in Platform Engineering, Cloud Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Infrastructure Automation, or a closely related field.
- OpenShift & Kubernetes: Strong hands-on experience with OpenShift Container Platform (OCP) and Kubernetes, including designing, deploying, upgrading, and automating clusters.
- Software Development: Proficiency in Go or Python, with a strong understanding of object-oriented programming principles, software engineering practices, and code-first automation.
- GitOps: Practical experience implementing GitOps methodologies and tools such as Argo CD.
- CI/CD: Experience with CI/CD platforms including Tekton, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or equivalent technologies.
- API Development: Hands-on experience developing APIs and integrating systems through automated, scalable interfaces.
- Infrastructure as Code: Strong knowledge of Infrastructure as Code principles, YAML, Ansible, and automated infrastructure management.
- Cloud-Native Architecture: Strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices, Kubernetes ecosystems, and cloud-native architecture patterns.
- Kubernetes Operators: Experience developing Kubernetes Operators is preferred and will be considered a strong advantage.
- OpenShift Virtualization: Experience supporting OpenShift Virtualization and virtualized workloads is an asset.
- Observability: Experience with observability and monitoring platforms such as Dynatrace, Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK is preferred.
- Private & Hybrid Cloud: Experience working in private cloud, hybrid cloud, or enterprise infrastructure environments is advantageous.
- Self-Service Platforms: Experience building self-service capabilities that enable application teams to provision and manage platform resources efficiently is a plus.
- Collaboration & Communication: Strong ability to collaborate with architects, developers, application teams, and technical stakeholders while communicating complex technical concepts effectively.
- Engineering Mindset: Strong focus on automation, scalability, reliability, code quality, continuous improvement, and reducing reliance on manual operational processes.
- Education: A Bachelor's degree or equivalent is required, with a Bachelor of Engineering or related technical qualification preferred.
- Remote Work: Full-time remote position based in India, with the listed work location in Chennai.
- Flexible Environment: Opportunity to work remotely while contributing to enterprise-scale platform engineering initiatives.
- Technical Growth: Hands-on exposure to OpenShift, Kubernetes, GitOps, cloud-native architectures, infrastructure automation, APIs, and modern software engineering practices.
- Innovation: Opportunity to develop new automation capabilities, Kubernetes Operators, self-service platforms, and innovative approaches to infrastructure management.
- Cross-Functional Exposure: Collaborate with architects, application teams, and platform stakeholders on complex enterprise technology initiatives.
- Professional Development: Opportunities to strengthen expertise across cloud engineering, SRE, DevOps, platform automation, observability, and distributed systems.
- Career Growth: Opportunity to contribute to large-scale enterprise technology platforms while developing deeper technical leadership and mentoring capabilities.
- Additional Benefits: Salary, healthcare, paid leave, retirement benefits, and other employee perks may be provided according to the partner company's applicable policies.
