Platform Engineer

We're looking for a Senior Full Stack / Platform Engineer who can take ownership across our application and cloud infrastructure. This is not a traditional DevOps role, nor is it a frontend-heavy full-stack position. You'll build product features across our backend and frontend, work directly with PostgreSQL and our APIs, and help own the AWS infrastructure those applications run on. You should be comfortable moving between writing application code, designing a database change, deploying a service, investigating production issues and improving the reliability of the platform. You'll work closely with our CTO and product team and will have significant influence over how the platform evolves.

Responsibilities:

• Build and maintain backend services and APIs using TypeScript / Node.js .
• Develop features across our web and mobile applications.
• Design and optimise PostgreSQL schemas, queries and data workflows.
• Operate and improve our production infrastructure on AWS.
• Manage containerised services using Docker and ECS.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines.
• Improve monitoring, logging, alerting and application observability.
• Diagnose production issues across application, database and infrastructure layers.
• Design integrations with external platforms and APIs.
• Improve platform reliability, security and performance.
• Review code and help establish strong engineering practices.
• Work directly with product and engineering leadership to turn requirements into pragmatic technical solutions.

Requirements:

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong TypeScript / JavaScript and Node.js experience.
• Strong PostgreSQL and SQL skills.
• Experience building and maintaining production APIs.
• Experience deploying and operating applications on AWS.
• Strong understanding of Docker and containerised applications.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines.
• Ability to diagnose production issues across application, database and infrastructure layers.
• Comfortable taking ownership of systems rather than handing problems to another team.
• Strong written and spoken English.

• React or React Native experience.
• AWS ECS / Fargate experience.
• Terraform, CDK or other Infrastructure-as-Code experience.
• PostGIS or geospatial data experience.
• Experience building offline-first mobile applications.
• Experience with IoT or high-volume sensor data.
• Experience with monitoring and observability platforms.
• Experience working in a startup or small engineering team.
