Platform Engineer
Summary
Permanent Platform Engineer in a NZ public sector organisation's Digital and Technology team (hired via recruiter Younity), based in Wellington. Leads platform architecture and infrastructure as code, builds CI/CD and GitOps pipelines, and mentors engineers using Terraform/Ansible, Kubernetes/OpenShift, and Jenkins/Tekton/Argo CD.
Responsibilities
- Lead platform architecture and infrastructure as code practices across complex enterprise environments
- Design and optimise CI/CD and GitOps delivery pipelines to improve deployment reliability, security, and speed
- Mentor engineers, provide third-level technical support, and champion continuous improvement across Digital and Technology teams
- Significant experience in platform engineering, cloud infrastructure, or DevOps roles within complex enterprise environments
- Strong hands-on expertise with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform, OpenTofu, or Ansible, and deep knowledge of container platforms including Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenShift
- Proven experience designing and supporting CI/CD and GitOps pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, Tekton, or Argo CD
- Solid understanding of secure engineering practices, access control, secrets management, and platform governance, with strong Linux and platform operations knowledge
- Excellent communication and mentoring skills, with the ability to influence engineering practice and collaborate across technical and non-technical audiences
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant technology field, or equivalent practical experience in platform engineering or DevOps
- Demonstrated experience with observability, monitoring, and logging practices in production environments
- Proficiency with Git and version control practices, and experience supporting on-call technical operations on a rostered basis
